South Jersey native wins Academy Award for documentary short
A South Jersey native shared the spotlight with Hollywood’s biggest stars on the entertainment industry's most glamorous night.
Edgewater Park native and Holy Cross Prep Academy graduate Anthony Giacchino won Best Documentary (Short Subject) Academy Award on Sunday for “Colette.”
The short documentary, written and directed by Giacchino, tells the story of Colette Marin-Catherine, a surviving member of the French Resistance.
The documentary follows Marin-Catherine and a young student to the Nazi forced labor camp where her brother, also a member of the French Resistance, died.
"When we were nominated, she reminded us that the power of documentary filmmaking ensured that her brother Jean Pierre was, as she put it, no longer lost in the night and fog of the Nazi concentration camp system,” Giacchino said in his acceptance speech.
