IB Mayor presents community service awards
Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina recently presented five Mayoral Community Service Awards at this year’s State of the City address. The awards went to people or groups that achieved major accomplishments during the year. They are: The IB Neighborhood Center, led by Executive Director John Griffin-Atil, for their dedication during the COVID-19 pandemic, organizing food drives, blood drives, a food pantry and more; Imperial Beach resident Dr. Ramon Hernandez of the UCSD School of Medicine, who helped the city through the public health crisis and served on the Mayor’s Task Force to provide helpful resources to the city; Ron Chapman, owner of Coronado Brewing Co., for leading by example and following every regulation, precaution and suggestion to keep patrons safe; Barbara Jimenez of the County of San Diego Health Department, for helping provide resources to residents by opening a testing site in the city and one of the first vaccination sites in the county; and Marc Aronsohn, the manager of Grocery Outlet, for his dedication to the community and for working to make sure residents had the items they needed.
