George Boorer at home in 2013. He was a life member of the South Canterbury Amateur Radio Club and died in Timaru earlier this month, aged 87.
When George Boorer was 15 he, and a friend, set up a wire between their houses, so they could communicate.
It was a nod to the future for the Timaru man, who would go on to learn Morse Code, and be made a life member of the South Canterbury Amateur Radio Club.
