South Bend area group-focused fitness gyms adjust and adapt for their communities

Abbi Pollyea says her business was built around energy.
As the owner of Movement Made Beautiful in Granger, a fitness business that offers classes in a group setting designed to “bridge dance to fitness,” Pollyea said clients feed off one another in the large 22-person classes, creating a positive, yet physically challenging, time.
“With the pandemic, though, it took all of that away,” she said.
Gyms, like other businesses deemed non-essential, were temporarily shut down a year ago and were able to reopen for in-person services by mid-June. Like many other businesses during the shutdown, gyms like Pollyea’s and others, such as 9Round Fitness and Pure Barre, pivoted quickly and offered online classes within a week.
