Hemant Soren, the youngest chief minister of Jharkhand, was arrested by the ED in a money laundering case. Born in 1975, he had a chequered political career and was not the first choice of his father, Shibu Soren, for inheriting his political legacy. Hemant took charge of the state as CM in 2013 with the support of Congress and RJD, but his first stint was short-lived. In 2019, he stormed to power with his party JMM and became the leader of the opposition. He has been known for his advocacy of social welfare and economic benefits of mining activities for tribals.
