It may have only been a few hours since the decision to remake Soorarai Pottru in Hindi became official. Producer Vikram Malhotra, known for films like Sherni, Shakuntala Devi, Airlift and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, had been in talks with the makers of the original, 2D Entertainment, for the last six months and sealed the deal this summer. The Hindi version of the Suriya Sivakumar-led film will be directed by Sudha Kongara, who wrote and helmed the original which was based on Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey by G. R. Gopinath. The original Tamil-Telugu bilingual had dropped on a leading OTT channel late last year and was widely applauded by the audience. While Sudha Kongara continues to write the screenplay for the Hindi version, talk is that several A-list names are on the makers' consideration list to play Maara, the central character essayed by Suriya in the original. Names on top of the pile are Ajay Devgn, John Abraham, Akshay Kumar, and Hrithik Roshan. Hearsay is that these actors are the makers' top choices for the central part, and subject to the availability of their dates, one of them will be finalised to play the lead. Coincidentally, most of the said actors are also producers who often back their films in dual capacities. Hearsay is that the deal could soon be closed with one of them and an announcement will be underway.
