In response to "Phonics won't cure all our reading problems" (Mark Bracey, Chronicle January 14): The evangelical phonics revolution… making sure teachers, like all practitioners, have the time to prepare and teach well.
I
am a fulltime teacher of new entrants to Year 3. That's four years of curriculum coverage in one wee space.
I love many aspects of being a teacher, it's a vulnerable career. You are there with yourself all the time, exposed, raw, your energy always goes before you. It's not for the faint-hearted, I give out a lot of energy, I aim to be my best every day for the beautiful children and that is every child, as they are all our tamariki, noble, innocent, teeming with life. Wow, they are something.
