Sonoma County Supervisors are halting movement on a cannabis permitting measure, instead calling for an environmental study of its impacts. The unanimous decision comes after the measure was forwarded to the board by the Planning Commission but also after rural protesters spoke out against the measure this past Monday. Details of the environmental study have not been worked out but could take between a year to 18 months. If the measure had passed, it would have done away with a one acre cap on farms and allowed cannabis plantings in 10 percent of any parcel of 10 acres or more. It would have also allowed the agricultural commissioner to give some permits without a public notice or hearing.
