Wicked Local
In a year filled with unbelievable limitations for students nationwide, Somerville High senior Kevin Wen, 17, has managed to keep busy doing things he loves.
For Wen, that meant developing a research project into how nanoplastics might get through cell membranes to better understand the possible impact of plastic pollution on various organisms, with the support of professionals at two prestigious universities.
But, that’s just one thing.
Science and Somerville
Wen grew up in Somerville, and as a son of Chinese immigrants he’s always appreciated his diverse community. He’s a pianist, track and cross country athlete, and leads the Science Club, Math Club, and Trivia Team at Somerville High. He’s also a seriously accomplished student: Wen is a National Merit Scholar, Regeneron Science Talent Search semi-finalist, and was recently selected as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.
