SOMERVILLE – Somerset County's property tax rate will be going up less than 1 percent under a budget introduced by the county commissioners.
That increase means the property tax for county purposes on a home assessed at $455,373, the country average, will increase by $55.13. That does not include any increases for local school or municipal taxes.
Though the $255.12 county budget is increasing by 1.25 percent, the tax increase is being held down by a 2.38 percent increase in the overall value of assessed property in the county.
“The 2021 budget that we have created strikes the balance by being compassionate yet fiscally responsible," County Commission Director Shanel Y. Robinson said. "This budget ensures that we continue to provide all current services, while being able to add additional services such as free COVID testing and vaccinations for Somerset County residents.”
