Some Republicans Argue Congress Should Be Spending Money on Border Wall, Not Capitol Security

Following the January 6 riots, Democrats put forth a bill proposing increased security around the Capitol, though some Republicans argued the money would be better spent on finishing the border wall between Mexico and the U.S. advocated by former president Donald Trump.
The House approved the bill for $1.9 billion, although GOP Rep. Lance Gooden of Texas said Democrats would rather spend the money building a fence "around this building in D.C." than completing the border wall.
Some Republicans proposed amendments to the bill, including Rep. Bob Good, of Virginia, whose amendments included diverting $350 million from the Capitol security upgrade budget and $2.7 million for Capitol police equipment to instead be spent on border security.
