TECATE, MEXICO —
A brush fire in Mexico — near the border with the Mountain Empire area of southeastern San Diego County — sent smoke into the air that was visible from as far away as Lyons Peak near Jamul on Thursday.
The fire, which started around noon, was burning southeast of the Baja California city of Tecate, said Cal Fire San Diego Capt. Thomas Shoots.
He said Cal Fire crews were monitoring the fire, which was not burning toward the border with the U.S. He added that crews would respond if that changed.
