Slain Dayton detective honored during Ohio Peace Officers’ Memorial

Sen. Sherrod Brown honors Det. Jorge Del Rio on Senate Floor
A Dayton police detective who was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2019 was among those honored during the Peace Officers’ Memorial in London, Ohio, today.
Detective Jorge Del Rio was shot twice while serving a drug-related warrant as part of a Drug Enforcement Administration task force in Dayton. He died days later on Nov. 7, 2019.
The families and agencies of officers killed in the line of duty in 2019 and 2020 gathered near the Peace Officers’ Memorial wall, a monument that includes the name of every officer who died in the line of duty in Ohio, Thursday.
