The six kayaks destroyed will cost up to $9000 to replace.
The one metre by four metre shed was well ablaze when Fire and Emergency crews arrived. Fenz are treating the fire as suspicious.
Wild said the shed had six kayaks at the time.
“It’s absolutely rooted.”
He said from reports about the “acrid" smoke and thick layer of molten plastic on the ground, he believed the kayaks had been destroyed, rather than stolen.
The kayaks – two double and four single – were “sit on top” kayaks, worth an estimated $8000-$9000 in total. Each boat was four years old.
Wild said that “a silver lining” of the incident was that the trailer holding most of the company's gear was off site at the time.
