Sir Greg Knight MP.
The proposition now has renewed impetus in light of the government’s move to look afresh at designating a small number of new National Parks and AONBs.
Sir Greg has written to Natural England giving the suggestion his full backing.
Sir Greg said: “It is clear to anyone living in, or visiting, our region that the Yorkshire Wolds and the surrounding area is outstandingly beautiful, and this should be designated in law.
“The Yorkshire Wolds boast numerous characteristics which are of particular significance, including clear chalk streams, special geological features, and unspoiled landscapes which have inspired artists such as David Hockney.
