Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man shot and killed Sunday by police in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, told his mother right before his death that police pulled him over because of the air fresheners hanging from his rearview mirror.
Police said they stopped Wright because of an expired registration.
The encounter collapsed into violence when officers moved to arrest Wright for an outstanding warrant over a missed court date. He got back into the car as Officer Kim Potter threatened to tase him.
