Shane Beamer always has a hard time leaving jobs, and as a college football coach, he’s done his share of moving around. He’s worked as a graduate assistant at Georgia Tech and Tennessee and as an assistant coach at Mississippi State, South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Georgia and Oklahoma. Last month, he landed back at South Carolina for his first head coaching gig.
It’s Beamer’s relationships with players that tie him to a place, and it’s those connections that impressed South Carolina, where he’d coached a variety of position groups from 2007-2010. Several former Gamecocks, including Marcus Lattimore, publicly advocated for Beamer to get the job after Will Muschamp was fired.
