Severe weather struck the Magnolia Springs area west of Kirbyville on Thursday afternoon, prompting the National Weather Service in Lake Charles to issue a severe thunderstorm warning.
Jasper County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan later said that there were several trees down along County Roads 317, 509, 511, and 515.
There was a report of a tornado touching down in that area, however, Duncan said there was no evidence of a tornado, but rather only straight-line winds.
There was also a report of a damaged house with people trapped inside. However, Duncan said that too was greatly exaggerated and emergency responders found no damage to houses or any other structures.
