Seminoles Closing in on Top 15 Cutline

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Seminoles.com) – The Florida State Men’s Golf Team sits in 11th place through the second round of the NCAA Men’s Golf Championship held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The Seminoles look to close in on the Top 15 cutline following Sunday’s third stroke-play round. FSU tees off at 10:27 a.m. ET/7:27 a.m. PT.

“From a results standpoint, it definitely wasn’t the round we were looking for,” FSU Head Coach Trey Jones said. “This is a golf team that has only shot somewhere around four over-par rounds for the year, and to go out and have all five players struggle on the same day was tough on them.”

FSU moved five spots down the leaderboard on Saturday, with none of its five golfers finishing under par as it shot 14-over as a team. Senior John Pak shot 2-over par on the day, recording a birdie and sitting in a tie for 16th on the leaderboard at even par.

Averaging close to 20 birdies per round, FSU was only able to record five birdies on the day in what has been a difficult golf course at Grayhawk.

“We’ve put ourselves in a position where we’re going to have to play a really good round of golf tomorrow, and we knew when we came here that we would have to play good golf,” Jones added. “We need to respond versus react. From a golf course standpoint, we simply didn’t hit enough balls close to the hole, and we didn’t putt it very well at all.

Graduate transfer Vincent Norrman is tied for 26th at 2-over, shooting a 3-over 73 on Saturday. He also added a birdie in his round, the same par-5, 650-yard hole on the 11th that Pak also birdied.

Redshirt sophomore Cole Anderson had a steady round at 4-over. Freshmen Brett Roberts and Frederik Kjettrup each shot 5-over.

Oklahoma State leads the field at 6-under, followed by Oklahoma (-1) in second place. The two schools from the Sooner State are the only programs shooting under par for the championship.

In order to move on, FSU will look for a big day on Sunday in the pivotal third stroke-play round of the championship.

“When frustrations sets in, you’re just not in a good place,” Jones added. “And a lot of that was youth for them and not being able to keep a positive attitude and move forward. I have full confidence in these guys to come out tomorrow and play like how I know they can play.”
