The Seminole County School Board on Monday evening voted 3-2 to select Serita Beamon as the next superintendent.
The decision came after hours of public comment.
In a surprise move last week, the board rescinded its vote to hire Chad Farnsworth, an assistant superintendent with Lake County Schools.
Many members of the Sanford Community spoke up, expressing concerns over the board not hiring longtime school district attorney Serita Beamon.
Beamon makes history as the first African-American woman to lead the school district.
