Roy Hare, a Sarnia veteran who fought his way across Europe during the Second World War as a member of the Essex Scottish Regiment, has died. He was 97.
“He will be greatly missed by all,” said Heather Orton, poppy chairperson at Branch 62 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Sarnia. “He was a wonderful gentleman and one of our greatest soldiers.”

In 2016, Hare was among the Canadian veterans to receive the National Order of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest bravery decoration.
