Mrs. Pepin’s second grade class at Cameron Elementary held its annual pajama drive to benefit local at-risk youth. Rather than a traditional gift exchange, students bring in a new pair of pajamas to donate. The class collects during the month of December, and celebrates with a pajama party, popcorn, and a movie the last day of school before the holiday break. This is the 10th year of the pajama drive. This year the class, with the help of Gladstone Area Schools families and friends, collected 112 pairs of pajamas and 170 books, which will be donated through the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Chapter of the Pajama Program to the Foster Closet of Delta County and Delta County Department of Human Services, who then distribute the pajamas and books to at risk youth and those in foster care. Pepin helped establish the U.P. chapter in 2016, which provides services to all fifteen counties of the Upper Peninsula. Donations made stay in the county in which they are collected.
