On rare occasions, some eggs will have two yolks.
And in Sandy Steinbergâs case, she cracked an egg on Dec. 18 to find not one, but four yolks â a discovery that has a very long odds. The British Egg Information Service estimates a double yolk to happen once in every 1,000 eggs, and a triple yolk to happen once in every in 25 million eggs. There are no official odds for four yolks.
Steinbergâs quadruple-yolker was found in a normal carton of large eggs from Dakota Layers, an egg farm in Flandreau. She had bought a few dozen from the County Fair Food Store in Mitchell as she and a few others from her church had planned to make and deliver Christmas cookies to some of their more elderly members.
