According to the agency, the standard of care for large cattle is two acres per animal. The 33 cattle seized were all sharing just 11 acres total.
“The property was primarily dirt with little to no grass or vegetation,” the Sheriff's Office said in a statement.
The agency transported all the cattle to its Animal Services facility where they now have access to a large pasture, food, water and medication. The Agriculture Unit has been working with a local veterinarian to assess the lot.
Deputies are also working to obtain a verified petition, which will give the Sheriff's Office full custody of the animals.
