BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) â City of Buffalo Parking Commissioner Kevin Helfer announced Friday the School Zone Safety Program will be reactivated on Monday, February 1.
The reactivation is in conjunction with the reopening of schools across the city. Officials say speed zone camera citations will not be issued during the acclimation period, which runs through February, to give drivers ample time to adjust to the speed limits.
"Flashing beacons will be activated and flashing throughout the school day in each of these areas to help acclimate motorists to the change in speed limit during school hours, which is reduced to 15 miles per hour in these zones to protect students. The school zone speed limit is in effect for the hours listed under the speed limit panel. Motorists should also be aware that police can also enforce the posted speed limit to protect our children," a release from the city says.
