STUDENTS will be safer walking to school as a new trial begins at East Wichel Primary School in Staldon Road.
Swindon Borough Council is working with the school and launched 'School Street' which started on Monday as part of its School Safety Environment Zones scheme.
This means traffic won't be allowed to drive down the road between 8.15am to 9.30am and 2.45pm to 3.45pm, except for permit holders.
It will be in place for up to 18 months, with a formal consultation after six months, at the end of the trial it will be decided whether the scheme will be made permanent.
