SAULT STE. MARIE — The Sault and the surrounding areas saw a snowstorm on Monday where wind gusts reached 46 miles per hour.
Initially, a winter weather advisory was issued from the U.S. National Weather Service that was in effect from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday. The advisory was upgraded to a winter storm warning as of 10:35 a.m. and was in effect until 11 p.m. Monday for Paradise, Trout Lake, Rudyard, Sault Ste. Marie, Brimley, Kinross and Sugar Island.
The warning called for heavy lake effect snow with additional snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches with locally higher amounts. It was anticipated that the wind gusts were to reach over 35 miles per hour.
