Saugatuck celebrates Arbor Day with tree planting
SAUGATUCK — Saugatuck council members, city staff and members of the city's tree board planted a tree at Wicks Park Friday in honor of Arbor Day.
The ceremony is a tradition dating back 17 years and part of the city's commitment to maintaining its status as a part of the Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA program.
Friday, officials helped shovel dirt to plant a Redpointe Red Maple on the edge of the Kalamazoo River. The new maple replaces a tree that had died due to water saturation from the flooding that has plagued Wicks Park the past several years.
