Sarasota opening 2,700 COVID-19 vaccine appointments Wednesday afternoon
Sarasota County is opening its appointment system at 3:30 p.m. today for 2,700 vaccinations this weekend. To register for an appointment, visit https://www.eventbrite.com/o/florida-department-of-health-sarasota-32135779751 at 3:30 p.m.
The county, which is scheduled to run out of the COVID-19 vaccine Thursday, is working with Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System to get the doses to residents 65 and older.
The hospital system has 3,000 doses available. These are vaccines that the hospital has not used for several reasons, including a change in the state’s criteria.
The goal “is to get as much vaccine to the public as quickly as possible,” said David Verinder, president and CEO of Sarasota Memorial Health Care System.
