STUART — A volunteer at the Salvation Army Family Store found about $20,000 cash inside a trench coat pocket that was donated to the nonprofit Friday.
The coat's owner was contacted, who then donated a portion of the money back to the Salvation Army as a thank you.
"You find $5 here or $10 there…but it’s not very often that you come across that kind of money in the pocket of someone’s coat," said store manager Marco Cruz.
Both the volunteer who found the money and the donor wished to remain anonymous, in addition to the amount donated.
The donor, a woman visiting the area to clear out her recently deceased in-law's Stuart home, had scheduled for the Salvation Army to take everything, Cruz said — furniture, clothes and all.
