Salem senior hospitalized, 14 others displaced after public housing complex catches fire

One resident, whose name and condition have not been released, was taken to Salem Hospital.
Salem Fire Department responded just before 2 p.m. to reports of a fire at Robert Lindsey Tower, an apartment complex run by the Salem Housing Authority for low-income seniors. Flames first appeared on the building’s third floor, triggering the fire suppression system on the second and third floors, city officials said in a statement.
Residents of the building’s remaining seven floors are sheltering in place until they can be evacuated by Salem Fire Department. The Salem Housing Authority and the Red Cross are working together to relocate the 14 tenants displaced by the fire.
