Safe Travels: Things every novice should know about hiking the Adirondack High Peaks

Hikers rest while enjoying a spectacular view of the Adirondack Park from the top of Mount Marcy. The mountain is the highest point in New York State with an elevation of 5,344 feet. However, it's not an easy hike for the beginner. The hike in and out totals 14.8 miles and takes an estimated 10 hours to complete.Lauren Long | llong@syracuse.com
