'Cry Freedom' author in York
YORK will be treated to the true story of a family which 'cried freedom' tonight (FRI).
South African journalist Donald Woods, along with his wife Wendy, are to be the guests of honour at a ball at Bishopthorpe Palace, featuring VIPs from York and North Yorkshire.
The South African Learning Appeal Ball will raise cash for two educational charities in South Africa, and those attending will get a chance to hear the Woods' remarkable tale.
Many others with an interest in the nation's recent history got a chance to experience the Woods' story last night, at a special showing of the film Cry Freedom at City Screen.
