Russia's Recognition of Independence for South Ossetia and AbkhaziaIs Illegitimate: They Are Not Kosovo

Russia has signaled its intention to continue escalating the crisisin Georgia by unilaterally and illegally recognizing theindependence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Unless West responds inunequivocal terms, it is more than likely that Russia will pursuesimilar policies in other neighboring states, particularly Ukraine.
