Up. Countries around the globe are getting closer to the release of a vaccine for cobra, 19 more testing and distribution concerns for your head. Well talk to these expert, dr. Paul, but about the future of the shop and big claim rally continues, topping 17000. 00 while bringing up many points along for the ride. We have a lot to get to. Lets just start big news this week, as mentor now becomes the 2nd drug maker to report an efficacy rate above 90 percent for its covert 1000. 00 vaccine. The promising results are lifting hopes as global cases exceed, 55000000 and deaths total. More than 1300000. 00. Several countries are imposing travel restrictions or simply limiting public gatherings. This comes one week after russias Health Ministry announced its sputnik 5 axing is also 90 percent or 92 percent effective on tuesday during the annual bric summit host russian. President , lot of putin said the Russian Direct Investment Fund has reached agreements with its brazilian and indian partners on conducting Clinical Trials of the sputnik 5 vaccine. It has also reached an agreement with pharmaceutical companies in china and india to launch production of the vaccine in these countries, not just to cover their needs, but for 3rd countries as well. Putin also proposed creating a Vaccine Research center for brics countries, brazil, russia, india, china, and south africa for more on this and the vaccine supply joined by tracks around the Vaccine Education Center of the Childrens Hospital of philadelphia, dr. Paul offit. Dr. Thank you for joining us. Today, i want to start with asking you this about russias vaccine dubbed the sputnik 5. Theres a lot of controversy surrounding the data. What can you tell us about the efficacy of this vaccine . Its not much the, the press release that they put out shows that they in their trial even control proved active phase 3 trial. They only have 20 cases of the moment. So you really cant make any statements about ethics yet until you have 4 more people that i mean, the u. S. Trials for their own at pfizer are looking to get to 165. 00 cases where they feel you can confidently make statements. And right now the research 90 percent range, if you can judge of whats weights and we know other other countries have been and have started already testing that vaccine as well. So hopefully more data will come out from that. But here in the United States under operation, our speed so far, we have to vaccines that have more than 90 percent africa. See pfizer imported just above the 90 percent. And modern of this week reported in 94. 00 africa see rate. These are both new technologies. Is the high efficacy because of this approach . Do you know its a process, you know, weve never reviewed this message or in a way to make a vaccine before so i wasnt sure what to expect. Its looks amazing. Well, i mean, you know, we just had this virus and here, january, we had the genes, the code for this virus and here in january and now its november. We have 2 wards, Clinical Trials, 44000 people, 30000, people with the efficacy, at least from these press releases, look good again and its like science by press release. Im really looking forward. I wish data a more naturally f. D. A. Is actually wanted to get. It will see the state or probably in december, so will be able to look much more closely to see exactly who should be protected when they save 94. 5 percent up to see up and see for who. And so well see especially because of this new technology, which many experts do say that the m. R. I. Hasnt been more helpful at least in developing this vaccine. But because this is new, is there a possibility that there might be some long term side effects . Not only that, but looking at the time, like you said, we, we dont, we didnt know about the virus in for even even a year ago. So the fact that it, its just, its been released the data or at least the reports show that we have this efficacy so high in such little time. Usually it takes over a decade to, to even make a vaccine. Yeah, i mean i was fortunate to be about with a team of Childrens Hospital. So look at me the root of our psyche that was a 26 year effort. I mean, you will know it takes 15 or 20 years. Its all been done with that era. I mean, i think youre point is a great without which is that here you have this virus, this bad corona virus, its just made a state. The obvious solution is cause a number of clinical pathological changes. You would never predict, you know, like that it causes inflammation, blood vessels, who would have ever predicted that for a respiratory virus. And now were meeting it with, with a series of vaccine, a strategy. Its never been used before you, which theres no commercial experience. Im sure theres going to be a learning curve here over the next 2 years, so, you know, right. I think we need to keep our eyes open as we move forward and be humble in all this. Well, dr. We also want to ask you about all the excitement going around, obviously about the vaccine. What do we know about the actual rollout . One turn off, for example, are saying theyre requiring 2 doses, 4 weeks apart. Theres a lot of a lot of an ant answer questions about just distribution. The vaccine made by pfizer needs to be kept in minus 70 degree celsius. Thats colder than a winter in antarctica. This has got this clearly going to make it very expensive and more difficult to correct. Yes, i mean the Pfizer Vaccine has to be shipped in short minus 73 centigrade, which means dry ice. Weve never done that before in this country. Once thought, it can only be in the refrigerator for 24 hours before s. P. Thrown away because theyre concentrated multidose, spouse by doses for about 10 votes throughout its concentrated. So they have to be reconstituted when theyre reconstituted. You only have 6 hours before you have to throw it away. So i think were going to have to line people up and make sure that they get them one after the next, if that next. So its going to be john who, for many reasons, this distribution plant and another hurdle for the vaccine could be public mistrust. We know that in early september, a gallup poll was saying that americans up only 50 percent of americans were willing to get the vaccine. Now, because of the efficacy rate, that number has gone up to 58 percent, but thats still pretty low. And i think will happen if the vaccine will get out there and it will be given to essential workers Like Health Care workers, people in transportation, people, law enforcement, Water Purification people, work grocery store. Its obviously then theyll start to get in hundreds and thousands of people get it and know you can get it and people feel a lot better. Weve got to save it that the, that it doesnt cause even know where serious. And then i think more people will see over time more and more people are rapists actually more out. Well, not only that, but dr. Also, you know, just how are they going to be . Of course, for americans are saying that by q 2 well be able to see it. But what about for other countries for poor countries who arent as developed . When can and when should they expect to get Something Like this that some say not until 2024 . Well, sort of, you know, we, there are 7000000000 people plus all this planet and we dont need any more information at this point. You realize what happens one country can affect all countries. So we are, while all, essentially one country we, the United States has a responsibility because of our technological advances, who are economic advantages to other countries in this world. So i think eventually, you know, we have to make sure that we even know its not only ourselves, but immunize all of those countries benefits. This is good news about the m. R. I. New technology. Its great technology. If you can synthesize that knowledge to, its not that you could make one want to get doses that year. So i think i think we will get there in the next few years. Well, hopefully because weve gotten this far, at least in the last, not even year yet of knowing the krona virus and already hopeful that this vaccine will work and hopefully not have any long term side effects. Because i know we dont necessarily have the time for that. Dr. Paul offit, director of the Vaccine Education Center at the Childrens Hospital of philadelphia. Thank you. We really appreciate you making time for us today and breaking this down. My pleasure, thank you for rapid rise, that no one really seems to be talking about and 2017 when bitcoin was on its meteoric rise to 20000, it dominated conversations around the country today. That coin has just sliced through 17000 dollars on its way to historic numbers, and its not dominating conversations among average americans. So why is that . Joining us now to discuss, boom, bust cohosts, chris swan. Christy, what do you think is the reason the through bit coin is making such a rapid ascent that its not really getting the headlines that we once saw 3 years ago . You know, this is really interesting, this time around as mainstream reach. The traders are not really able on the ongoing drought right now, right now if you look at transit, your popularity is mainly 16 percent of what it was trying to cheat or basically everybody was trying to get into. I know how to get arent exchanges. So rumor is not calling this a rally that no one is talking about. And thats actually a good thing because i mean, isnt this rally is going to rest mark money and Institutional Investors have been adding to their positions rather than everyone just highly in a high degree years ago. So in 2017 that bull run crowds characterized by speculation theyd given how new exchanges, where there werent a lot of liquidity and either there was also just a few whales who really believe the price of their car. But now 3 years later down the road, we have much more mature technology, more alternative stable clients, us the scene in, in addition to like rescue and more whales than ever. So theres also the possibility that a lot of retirees who got for really badly in 2017, those who jumped in on a hike and bought in 20000. 00 only to see a drop im 150 percent. Couple months later, its likely that they are still and so we dont have a lot of room for more and less excited our day for fear of another. So ill let the know right has been pretty steady and its never a show that its primarily the events are driving the prices. So you have to john cena and point is do i really invest in apple stock, say, or microcredit. You dont talk about a lot here. You call it the worlds best collateral. And stanley jumping all or said, i think that one that works the point that will probably work better. So weve been calling this dish a little on the show for a really long time now, and its proven itself time and time again to be a tremendous storm. So long gold is already up 23 percent, and 2020 point is now up 125 percent. But what do you think . Do you think all this hype what it would have had more people kind of just jump on it . Do you agree with christiane this . Yeah, i think im going to couple really important points. But one of the biggest is that it goes back to 2017 in the fact of the market and big coin was abused at that time. It wasnt just misused. It was abused by people who wanted cheap. My. They wanted to jump in, you know, at 15000 and then watch it, you know, in 2 weeks later, see it now be worth 17000. That was the expectation. And a lot of people got burned by that, but i dont believe that they were burned by because they were burned by something called greed. Greed drove people to jump in and decide that this should think should be worth a whole lot. Instead of staying the course and by the way for right now, at 17000. 00, and its going to only go up from here, i believe, and it will come back down at times and then continue to go up and down. But for those who are getting in today, if youre one of those people watching and youre interested in doing this, understand it needs to be an investment, a Long Term Strategy, not a hey, if i get into day, it better be worth more tomorrow than it is today we dont get into anything thinking that its going to work that way and certainly not quite. So you need to be able to treat it, at least with enough respect to get into it, and have a Long Term Strategy of watching the development of the corn and watch it grow over time. The other thing that tells you its different the last time around. If you look at the old coins, whats happening with the theory im in with bitcoin cash and a lot of these other like light coin and some of those alternative points. What youll find is they are not rising at the same rate that they didnt 2017 while big question is. Well interesting, you say that the next stop for a bit coin is higher, a lot of analysts are predicting it can reach 22000 kristie. Do you agree . Do you believe that im people need to obviously invest that much like that. Not in a temporary form, but more in a long term. You know, definitely i think that decline is going to get to 22000. I dont think its going to stop at 22000 of that. So you, me so sure. I like that said my kids already have a little bit of correction here and there, and thats why a healthy, well, theyre going to drop down to france or, and regain its life again is perfectly normal. And i really dont think its just going to stop or 20000 it will keep going because there is a lot of momentum and a lot, you know, when i next. So, i mean, if we can just funding rates, those are still neutral. Which means that theres still a decent balance between buyers and sellers. So the market isnt really over yet. The average family rate is still just whole right around point 01 percent, which is the war. And then the most important thing is that these buyers, this time around, like ben said, there are not speculators, youre not long term holders. And we know that because the latest survey showed about 125000 big plans have moved out of the exchange, dark past mile. This outflow all of the exchanges show that there is no desire to sour or split or trade, radically off of exchanges to cowrite origin or another opportunity, or especially learn that its her people who actually want to invest and the long term and really know the big market boom bust cohost christiane bents on we appreciate you coming on to discuss this time now for a quick break. But when we come back, a number of airlines are hoping to use rapid coba tests to help protect passengers during their holiday travel. But a new report is shedding doubt on the plan as we go to break here. The numbers at the club are so, so well the pandemic, no, certainly no border is just blind to nationalities. As a march, we dont have a turkey. We dont have the facts and the whole world needs to be the chief judge of comedy classes this time to time. So we can do better. We should everyone is contributing nature in our own way. But we also know that this crisis not go on forever. The challenges create, the response has been masked. So many good people are helping us. It makes us feel very proud that we are in it together. During the vietnam war, u. S. Forces. It was a secret war. And for years, the American People did not know how much it is, especially the most heavily bombed country, per capita. Human history, millions of unexploded bombs still in danger lives in this Small Agricultural country. Jordan, i remember even today kids in los full victims of bombs dropped decades ago is the u. S. Making amends for the tragedy and help to the people need a little the c. E. O. s of facebook and twitter were in the hot seat once again in a Senate Hearing over how they chose to handle content related to the 2020 election. This includes, of course tweets from president trump, and whether they should have been taken down altogether. Well, artys, thats the latest rachel. What do we hear about these social media platforms from them and how they handled the election . Well, there was a lot of division, specifically between democrats and republicans in how they responded to these new policies that were introduced by facebook and twitter. On one hand, you had republicans saying that they went too far with the restrictions that they added to content that they said was false or misleading. And then on the other hand, you had democrats saying that they didnt go nearly far enough. Now one of the topics that came up were, of course, president trumps tweets selection day. And the fact that he has repeatedly treated saying he won the election or saying that it was rigged. And twitters choice to then put labels on those tweets or to restrict access to them, instead of taking them down altogether. Take a listen to what was said. I guess you see my concerns are that these tweets arouse people. And it seems to me that the entity that runs this operation ought to have an understanding that when there is a major situation, that the tweets can play a unique role. Our policy is focused on misleading information around the election and the super process to provide greater context for mission. Now, endorsing event went on to say that he sees value in leaving those tweets up. But that he wanted to add some extra resources so that people could go check out additional links to other information about what was really going on. What was said, weve heard a lot about section 230. What was said today. We know that a lot of these, these 2 parties have been in agreement about that, is that still the case . Yeah, that really was the one area where they seem to be able to still come together was in their criticism of section 230. 00. And you know, were talking about a provision that shield social media sites from the liability on the content posted by their users. So of course, there is that frustration with facebook and twitter when they decide to take actions against their users. And you have a lot of lawmakers saying that they are able to take that action but not have any responsibility behind it. Now that then turn into a conversation on whether sites like facebook and twitter have some sort of blacklist where they put users that they target. Take us know, is that, is there a list of every user who are every content creator who has been deep platform or had their contents reach, altered or have had some other adverse action taken by either facebook or twitter, or im not aware of anything like that. Exists certainly one of our we took an action, its recorded somewhere. You know, now there was a lot of criticism of section 230. 00 specifically, but there werent Many Solutions presented. And there also was a lot of talk about some of the negative things that could happen if section 2000 is taken away altogether. And facebook too has been criticized for whether it is that a platform. Is that a publisher . What was what was said during these hearings . What was there was response was, especially with the timing in the election. You had that conversation come up because you see facebook and twitter and they are presented as platforms where you and i can go and post content. But then you also see that added pressure towards them to police the content to make sure that theres no misleading content actually around in the election. So that was a conversation that was taken up. Take a listen. What was that . Were, were simply linking to conversations or information. No, no, youre not. You put up a page that says, quote, voter fraud of any kind is exceedingly rare in the United States thats not linking to a broader conversation thats taking a disputed policy position. And youre a publisher when youre doing that, your title to take a policy position, but you dont get to pretend youre not a publisher and get a special benefit under section 230. 00. As a result, no, of course is not the 1st time weve had this conversation, but its still not clear yet if congress is going to actually do anything to make sure that these sites have to be labeled as publishers. Instead of getting to be liberal. Those platforms, as they are right now, and it definitely wont be the last r. T. Correspondent, rachel blevins. Thanks for following this. Thank you. Holiday season is just around the corner and with the recent surge in coven 1000 cases, travel is expected to drop significantly. Tripoli is anticipating a nearly 10 percent drop in Airline Travel nationwide. The biggest drop since 2008. Many airlines are relying on these rapid covert tests in an effort to boost confidence. But is this enough to answer this more, we are joined by captain teachers from the allied pilots association, representing the pilots of American Airlines communications committee. Chairman a. P. Industry analysis committee. Thank you for being with us today. Lets get right to it. And i want to ask you about these Rapid Testing kits. Many governments are now worried about the accuracy of these are medical personnel handling these testing correctly or are these tests just inaccurate . Well, im a pilot, im a kept on airplane, not a doctor or a medical professional, but we all are following this news. We have probably family members who have gone through what kind of tests they had and trends. So it sounds like the efficacy of the rapid test sometimes, you know, is not as is full force is the p. C. R. Test, i think is what theyre called. So youve seen American AirlinesJust Announced today with, with one of our partners, british air in order to get traffic through london of coming up an Innovative Program that has p. C. R. Testing and has some level of testing when you get there. But getting to the core of it, as weve said many times before, and i think weve crossed over into the fact that people feel safe on the airplane and they should because the air flow, the mask and things that people have embraced. Its getting to where you want to go and in case of international and even in a why they have these pretesting so that the quicker we make reliable tests and a system that people can be confident in, as well as the authorities that the governor has various nations with the states, the quicker well get back to the slope of the recovery, which with the vaccine its going to take some time. But were definitely seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel and its not a train coming at us now. And weve only talked about this before the Consumer Trust and how airplanes are felt trying to and are being cleaned now more and better than they have been in the past. Holiday travel is expected to to drastically decline this year. Many airlines. They were hoping for some sort of recovery during this period because of this. But how much more is this going to hurt, especially without any stimulus . Are we going to see more layoffs . Well, you just just hit the nail on the head and it hurts your not your statement, but the real reality of it. We have 1200 pilots out for a little 19000 total people. What American Airlines that are sure about. Another alliance have similar circumstance. We have another several 100 that will be going out the door december 1st. So its happening and that not only as a human toll, but it will weigh on the recovery. And its clear by peoples behavior, look at the market, look at the way people are acting and ready to get back at business, but they want to do it responsibly. And i can assure you that when they believe that they can move about their communities, we have the specs, you know, we go through that process that if the airlines are not up and running, you cant just fly the airplane while. Shes me build the airplane while youre flying it, you know, trying to build a brick wall while theres water coming out. This is good water, this. So all the metaphors there, the bottom line is weve got to get this extent and i know the election had some rightful distractions. But whether its lame duck or its the, the new congress, the bottom line is we need this. Now we need this now, or were going to risk all the previous investment. And thats something that both parties were looking at to get the Airline Industry the all the help they can get before more layoffs occur. And unfortunately, there are a lot of distractions, much like you said, but with this vaccine news as well, we know that either way, its going to take some time for that release and its only going to be a matter of time months if not, maybe years before people are actually comfortable despite what we hear, that there is no data actually showing the airplanes have caused these breakouts of code that i want to go. My question before we run out of time boeing 737 max, its actually still grounded earlier this month. Regulators have said that they are nearing this final review of the planes, but several customers have already canceled more than 400. 00 orders of those planes and boeings rival air bus gained about 308. 00, new orders during that same period. Boeing stock obviously has rallied around 25 percent falling positive vaccine is, but is boeing going to return to business as usual, as vaccines are distributed and people begin to travel again . Well, none of us should be business, as usual, going to addressing the macs, the certification process generate in their craft that that was unsafe and missing, jr. Didnt take into account Human Factors pilots. And if you, if you look today, the house is actually reviewing a bipartisan bill with which weve supported, as along with other pilot unions and Flight Attendant unions. Mechanics. It gets said it reads like a rep sheet of the max and how was delivered to us. So it is addressing all of these concerns, bringing in Human Factors, real line pilots, ensuring that there isnt financial incentive to drive point a manufacturer to not training pilots like we, weve learned in the max that was one of the goals for an expense and a cost of the airplane. So if you look through that, that is exactly the type of solution we must have. And we applaud those legislators some bolt sides for taking those steps. Weve got to see that legislation come to right now as a perfect time for it because we can never forget and this must never happen again. And it starts with these reforms today will be saying what happens the next couple weeks as the 70000 acts as scheduled to start these tests again by the end of december, kept it on a stage, or we really appreciate your time. Always a pleasure talking to you. Thank you sir. Thats all for now. Catch, you must on demand on the part of a t. V. Feel. Isolation, full community. Are you going the right way or are you being that direct . What is true . What is faith . In the world corrupted, you need to descend to join us in the depths.
