Montana recount. Live from moscow to the wild this is all its international very well welcome to the program my names. Well its got us started off very tense an often are a swathe joe biden is on course to become the 46th president of the United States but donald trump appears adamant that the election was rigged retching lawsuits in the coming week. Spence one breaks down how it all came to be. Joe biden has officially become the president elect for the United States it was saturday when that announcement was made by a number of media organizations after biden secured more than 270 electoral votes enough to put him over the top he spoke in wilmington delaware tonight alongside the 1st Vice President of the United States come all the harris 1st woman ever to ascend to the position of Vice President heres what harry had to say in introducing the new president baby have elected a president who represents the best and. A leader the world will respect and our children will look up to a commander in chief will respect our troops and keep our country safe and a president for. Americans the new president elect biden took to the states and i talked about the need for the nation to heal to come together and to be ready to move into a new chapter. Joe biden becomes the oldest person ever to be elected president of the United States 5 days after voting 1st closed heres some of what biden had to say the people of this nation have spoken. Theyve delivered a clear victory. A Convention Victory a victory. For we the people weve won with the most groups ever cast of president ial ticket and their stupid nation 74 years. Now obviously this call doesnt come without controversy as i said a number of media organizations make this call but it doesnt officially become official until the vote is certified across the United States in 50 different states and that wont happen over the course of a number of days in the meantime on monday the Trump Campaign continues to push against this and will file a number of lawsuits in court including in michigan in pennsylvania. In arizona in nevada in all of those states the president s team is claiming there has been rampant and widespread voter fraud in the fraud to actually overturn the election heres what the president had to say tonight we all know why joe biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him they dont want your truth to be exposed the simple fact is this election is far from over now to be clear its very difficult to have enough of these cases to be able to actually overturn the results of an election because its more than just being able to prove fraud you would also have to be able to prove that there was enough fraud to actually change the outcome of the election and how far does it go does it go all the way to the u. S. Supreme court in each one of these individual states that remains to be seen but in the meantime it seems that President Trump is not yet conceding the race to president elect biden we should also mention that as these cases go forward there is some precedent for this back in the year 2000 when al gore and george w. Bush ran against each other there was only one state that was ultimately contested that was the state of florida that race went on for 37 days while the new ballots were counted it remains to be seen how long this race could continue with all of these Different Court challenges across the nation im dense one. Womans off to some outlets paced by to near full office crowds of his supporters erupted in celebration fronting Donald Trumps home state of new york tens of thousands jubilantly took to the streets elsewhere in the country to from massachusetts on the east coast to Washington State in the west supporters of trump also came out in force claiming the election was brought down to montana recount crowds gathered in florida where the incumbent veiled and even california widely viewed as a democrat stronghold of course. While there is rallies a pet peaceful and lansing michigan things turned ugly when the 2 opposing sides met. Stoffel is broke out involving groups of people many of whom are armed more than 500 truck supporters have gathered wearing my hot sun chanting slogans such as for more years. Hawkins join you know neil here in studio and they discussed the current atmosphere. The nation whatever the result in the end of the day would wake up disappointed when they read the news on the social media and thats reflected by the protests weve seen over the streets across many cities of america both pro trumpet and celebrating badens victory and also reflected in the polling numbers though dont forget that although biden won the majority of Electoral College votes the popular vote was much closer around 75000000. 00 for boyd to 71000000 for trumbo threat yeah indeed the highest amount for any president and the 2nd highest amount for trump so this was not a landslide victory as you quite rightly said a blue wave of democrat senators and congressmen as well also failed to materialise for the democrats. Remains optimistic and was adamant that he was a president that can unite these divisions this was what he had to say i pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify. Were done to seize red states and blue states always sees the United States the bible tells us everything there is a season a time to grow tired of repeated time to sew and a time to hear oh this is the time get here on america i. Do so on the goal the right words here are the time when deficient is right but its a tough task. It is going to face a very much an uphill battle he faces a majority Republican Senate with some states still facing a runoff to see which senators take place take the seats their. Concerns. Which people were hoping for which the poll numbers working for hasnt materialized what role the has materialized is the scale of polarization in u. S. Domestic politics and very much the deep rooted divides trump exposed them 4 years ago in the 26th the election and this election as they very much havent gone away and ironically as you said all the words from biden but this is a bit of deja vu for Many American listeners because weve heard these words before following the 26th election from incumbent President Donald Trump now its time for america to find a division have to get again. Republicans and democrats and independents across this nation i say it is time for us to come together as one United People coming together of course is a particularly tough task given factors we should beyond bottle drops all job on to control the coronavirus pandemic how to handle that one key issue which the election was very hotly foretell which continues to polarize Economic Policy tax policy americas image abroad americas Foreign Policy these are all issues which do divide americans and which will continue to pose a challenge for this presidency. Campaign of course claims that the media in particular has been stoking these for many years and he believes that the only way he can get justice team trump can get justice is in the courts yeah absolutely i mean theres been a whole. Host of allegations from trumps campaign. They say that a lot of the votes havent been officially counted officially certified especially in those key swing states which have been making headlines over the last few days. Trumps supporters claim that observers were allegedly not allowed into the stations to properly monitor the vote counting process. Of diseased voters were counted in favor of by a lot of these already have been debunked by officials. But nevertheless he is taking legal action litigation in many of those key states thats going to head off into next year and i mean it in one way who can blame them because again going back to 4 years ago to the 26th election the democrats there were also quite sore losers i mean Hillary Clinton was adamant that the election was stolen from the thats exactly the right words and that resulted in 4 years of nearly 4 years of investigations and millions of taxpayers dollars seeking to find that link between trump and russia proving that collusion and that of course resulted in no evidence of such thing at all now ironically we see a complete role reversal here with the republicans with trump claiming the election was stolen from them and trumps presidency of course would have would have battle hardened him and sought him out to fight these battles because of these allegations over the last few years boyden though as we said remains optimistic that the u. S. In terms of how this election was conducted can very much show the world how its done tonight the whole world is watching america and i believe that our brand america is a beacon for the glow. Were not only we will not only by the example of our power but by the power of our example most of the world which has been watching this election closely World Leaders which expressed a lot of concern over the last few days of a constitutional crisis seeking to call bull sides looking at the protests the litigation the court waffles which is due to go in until the end of this year probably what is the next year as well theyll be looking at this and. Thinking this is a slightly different picture than the one as presented. Well joining me on the line now is Peter Galbraith who is former u. S. Ambassador to croatia peter welcome to the program you know were very lucky because you if im not mistaken worked as an adviser and actually helped shape joe bidens policy at a stage who got a bit of inside insight hair why do you think he will focus his efforts fost if he indeed does go to the oval office and well quite frankly do you think hes going to be a success. Well 1st just to be clear i was not involved in the campaign although certainly i supported joe biden i did work for 14 years for the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and he was one of the senior members of that committee. First i think just to clarify the situation theres no doubt that joe biden is the president elect and will take office at noon on the 20th of january next year there are there are no court cases that have any merit. The margins are such that they are not capable of being disputed and to be also clear joe biden won the election by 5000000 votes the most votes that any candidate has ever gotten this donald trump for the 2nd time in a row lost the popular vote and if the us d didnt have a constitutional system that was created in the 18th century in significant part to benefit slave owners he would never have been president but. You know that be that as a matter biden is somebody who knows the world extremely well hes hes going to be a steady hand you are not going to wake up in the morning and wonder about some change of policy thats been put off in tweets or some for a trail of an ally what youre going to see is back to a normal United States president. Somebody who you can rely on when he speaks and when when the United States gives its word im just picking up what you said i guess by 2 close by all accounts won the popular vote but trump will say i did win more facts than any incumbent after the 71000000 he also got more minority votes than any republican and 60 s. He actually picked up 7000000. And 2016 so its clear that he does still enjoy almost 50 percent of support in the u. S. Which just shows you how polarized the country is do you think its almost sort of Mission Impossible for joe biden to unite america. Yeah for sure the countrys polarized but there was an extraordinary turnout in this election largely because of donald trump and because a majority of americans and wanted did not want him to continue as president and joe biden got over 50 percent of the vote. The Hillary Clinton won by 3000000 votes but she didnt get 50 percent. Yes theres no doubt that the country is very polarized that said i think joe biden is. Probably the one person who can bring people together hes not a threatening figure he is a liberal but. Somebody whos been in politics a long time hes not at all a radical and hes a really nice person. People in washington know him and like him one of the ads that democrats ran or perhaps it was the Lincoln Project was Lindsey Graham one of trumps strongest supporters talking about how decent joe biden is and you know how nobody could dislike him now he he didnt realize that those comments which were made a few years ago were what would be used in an ad but nonetheless it reflects the attitudes that that people who know joe biden across the aisle and these personal connections. Connections do matter. Also joe biden is sort of the polar opposite of donald trump in the sense that he has great deal of empathy. He you know hes a kind person its not about him so i think and i think what youre going to see both domestically and internationally is normalcy and you know i think that is going to be the best thing to repair the enormous damage thats been done again both domestically in this country by the day. Visions that trump contributed to and internationally by the break with allies but since this is russian television. On television in russia i think its this actually finds presidency wont will be good for u. S. Relations with russia and with china you know were at a different point in history i was in basket or in the one 990. 00 s. And at that time the United States you know it was the us unique power in the world and when we acted the rest of the world took notice and very often respond that thats how we were able to end the wars and in croatia and in bosnia which i personally was very much involved in well thanks a part to the Bush Administration the iraq war and certainly. The trumpet ministration but also the rising power of china and the recovery of russia from the situation that it was and when the soviet union dissolved. The United States is it does not have that preeminent position it may be the most powerful country in the world but it isnt the dominant in the way it was in the 1990 s. And so. America is going to have to work cooperatively with the rest of the world and you know this is the challenges that we face as a planet the Climate Crisis the pandemic the Global Economy those are the big 3 this is going to require russia the United States china and europe to Work Together there isnt any other solution and when we deal with some of the regional challenges north korea for example you know russia china and the United States are going to have a common interest and Work Together i hope that well be able to get back into the iran nuclear chord which was something done again with china europe russia. Completely irresponsible to have withdrawn. If we could get in that will be in the interests of i hope that over time well also have words normal relations with iran which is a very rich culture and very important country just to kill from what you said just a bit earlier about how hes kind of seen as this all around nice guy some would argue that maybe they dont necessarily want that president to be nice they just want him to be competent and also its very possible that he hasnt had a chance to 8 people because he hasnt been a president yet hes had to make unpopular decisions and one of popular decision will are not enough to be relate to how he deals with covert 19 because there are people out there who just want to keep the economy going and dont want to be locked down who dont necessarily believe fully in the scientific benefits of mosques so is that not a concern that potentially even localized lockdowns could cripple the u. S. Economy father. Well 1st i think one reason that joe biden got so many votes is that he was perceived as confident by a majority of americans as opposed to the chaos and incompetence d of the trust era and perhaps that was no more visible than trumps incompetence and handling coping i mean its just hard to go back and look at a record this is a man who publicly discussed whether it makes sense to inject yourself with sleep who said that in an april that hes gone by april that there were 15 cases that would be gone who held the super spreader about. And i think a good part of joe biden success was that he said he would take it seriously he talked about a National Master mandate and i think that that will be popular if you look at the how the different american states have behaved including my native state of vermont. Which has a republican governor and he was and it was the most Democratic State in the country it was bidens best state that republican governor got reelected with the same percentage of the vote as biden did 66 percent why because he managed the crisis in a very competent way by shutting down the state of vermont which incidentally has the lowest rate. Of coronavirus of any statement country and the vermont economy is recovering so its i think its a false dichotomy to say its a choice between the economy and dealing with coronavirus quite the contrary you can only deal with the economy when youve dealt with coronavirus and i think thats the approach that joe biden is going to take im fine you know i want to ask you one thing that a lot of people a pillow donald trump for and the fact that he is one of the president s 2 outs not started in the involved in the thing. The war in his administration and now joe biden of course watched him alongside with the bomb a lot of people criticized them. Of course that was significant increases in u. S. Soldiers in afghanistan is do you think its a legitimate concern that were not going to see a full pullout of u. S. Troops as the trumpet ministration was was promising and that will see a return to what some call a bit of warmongering. Well i dont think its going to be a return to warmongering. There is the issue of these socalled forever wars in iraq and afghanistan of course iraq was launched by. George w. Bush over the opposition of barack obama although joe biden as a member of the senate had had supported. The in afghanistan. You know where were hoping that there will be some kind of. Peaceful resolution to it an agreement between the government and the taleban. I served for a year in afghanistan 2009 so im fairly familiar with the situation. You know i i think that here too when we get away from all the nasty rhetoric you know russia the United States have had a common in tristan in afghanistan which is not the return of a sunni extremist. Regime you know we can look at it at afghanistan during the 1980 s. The United States was supporting the sunni fundamentalists that the pakistani dictators all had had identified and in the end although it was defeat for the soviet union some of those forces came back and attacked the United States on september 11th 2001 and if i know there may be some in russia who would like to see the u. S. Get its comeuppance in afghanistan and perhaps for the u. S. Supported government took to fall all but in reality who knows where those forces will go and of course afghanistans lot closer to russia than it is to the United States so i just hope that we can step you know theres really no reason. Or russia in the United States to be at each others throats on most of these issues we have so much in common. And so im hoping that there will be a new era and yes there are going to be a couple of things on which we have some significant differences crimea ukraine but you know. There are other areas where were going to have to Work Together and certainly i would think that we would have a common interest in afghanistan well im sure that there are people quite stateside on here and russia who would like to share your optimism and hope that the next 4 years will only bring great cooperation was pizza galbreath former u. S. Ambassador to creation thank you so much for speaking to us its good talking to you. Why International Reaction has been rapidly coming into joe bidens projected victory israels Prime Minister welcome bite and while thanking donald trump for helping seal what he called historic peace accords such as the normalization of ties with the United Arab Emirates bunch of netanyahu called both politicians his great friends in the e. U. Leaders have generally expressed optimism at the new face set to take charge of the oval office. Congratulations to joe biden on his election as president of the United States and to come all the harris on her historic achievement the u. S. Is our most important ally and i look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities from Climate Change to trade in security the americans have chosen their president congratulations joe biden and come on harris we have a lot to do to overcome todays challenges lets Work Together i look forward to future cooperation with President Biden our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to master of the great challenges of our time we had from a former member of the European Parliament among others who categorized as biden as a friendly face for the e. U. Republican senate wouldnt be voting. By then and then sold the Us Supreme Court it will not be sold serenity perhaps it would say the new administration but said he. Would like to have one close relationship with by then and they will try to destroy some trade the issues that have. During this is the the good time but being station if the usa would be a more global trade isnt that insults nato so nato would be more active i think it in the Europa League would be more students and europeans and it really would like a Strong America but we see that theyve tried with trump in power to find a leader in us the 1st 1st taste of macro was coming out and theyre all trying to say ok we can do without the United States senate because the European Union thats i mean the europeans but the European Union cannot do without a Strong American by that and i didnt bodies this is this return of america to the global scene and biden is perceived as the to your of the western world and i think that these orphans. These a president senator 3. Different companies and in your wanted again to have to have a leader on this is why they look up to bite him that theyre happy with that i dont think they could have done that with 4 more years with trump while well be back at the top of the hour with all the very latest from around the lot especially from yes were continuing to get reaction to that jackpot that i have to see. I am. I am. I am i am i am a slightly. I. I. I. I. Believe. Everything in here is given to me basically these 4 tables that were given to my really ugly so im in the process of pipes and they only make any little personal so thats another way of cutting costs this is the coining share. This is my share for our own comfort i love it so its just something that actually when i bought it it was a big. And it was 1300. 00 so i made payments on the only thing in the house thats really expensive for me now so this is magic. And her Financial Difficulties have gotten worse since she started to accommodate her niece jennifer an unemployed single mother who has 3 children to take care of leah. Lindsey and jayden fortunately jennifer receives food stamps. Every month own the forests they. According to how many kids it has and they are. They put in so much on their own i get every month on the far south 646. 00 and 40. 00 just by fluke this for. 560. 00 euros a month to feed 5 people a tight budget before going shopping the 2 women check the balance on their card. Surrender and jennifer can spend their food coupons in any supermarkets like this Discount Store where they regularly go. Once at the checkout the food stamp card works just like any other credit card. And in this shop in the appalachian they are by no means the only ones who use it how many people pay for instance you. Probably have the right honey can its a its a its a lot yeah yeah. Thank you. Donald trump is planning to cut down on the amount of people who receive food stamps he risks making an already Vulnerable Society even poorer. But ironically here they voted 80 percent in favor of him
