Roll back 20 its still not enough to get it done thats why theres also a lawsuit in the bottle thats why theres also a lawsuit in michigan thats why theres also a lawsuit in arizona tonight you have to be able to roll back by going behind the 264 heres where this gets so messy if the Supreme Court comes in and ultimately is the court that rolls back some of this and this is why its very smart the biden comes out tonight and essentially declares himself the winner if he doesnt then it looks like this things still up in the air but if it looks like the Supreme Court who are not elected theyre appointed to this judicial seat are the ones rolling back an election half the countrys angry at that if the Supreme Court donald does not intervene half the country is angry about that so heres the problem is that at this point you have a country so divided between whether or not you have a legitimate president that it doesnt matter of biden as president or trump as president the country is going to believe half of the country is going to believe that they were cheated no matter who. Belles and so ultimately who loses in all of this the American People and the american process absolutely loses yeah actually that point you just brought up is one i definitely wanted to go into because we heard from bidens speech he talked a lot about how god is on his side truth is on his side the forces of science and he talked a lot about how the Democratic Party under his Election Campaign had formed the quote the broadest Call Coalition in American History of republicans democrats minorities and its also important to note that when you know in this current election donald trump actually gained more votes from people of color in the United States than he did before and actually received less from the white demographic than in 2016 do you think people with such a divided country are going to just lay down and accept these results well i dont think they are listen and you make a great point here this is important so so you have one thing being said by the Biden Campaign i dont blame them for saying that it makes sense to come out and say we have the broadest coalition we have the most votes of any president ial candidate in the history youve got to brag about that right its significant by a huge magnitude simultaneously though what biden is ignoring and what trump is pointing out is that President Trump received the most minority votes of any republican president since 1960 he received one 3rd of the entire l. G. B. T. Q. Community vote that is significant so actually what drove put together was not only a more diverse Republican Party than weve seen since 1980 but he also was able to expand the size of the party in a very significant way he is actually accumulated the most votes of any republican candidate in history so here you have on one side a populist in the form of trump and on the other side you have biden whos calling himself the populist and heres where the real divide is trump is very. He set himself up as the candidate of the working people the blue collar people right now as america looks at this election theyre very divided on who represents the people and there is no question about this part of it which is that biden was absolutely supported by the media no doubt about that big media as the president calls it big tech no question about that big donors no question about that big money in wall street there is no question that big influences from these major forces in america supported by that they did not support trouble trouble supported more by Blue Collar Workers i got to tell you donald i know you follow american politics and i know that youre aware of what happens here that is a complete reversal from where these parties have been in the past democrats have traditionally been the party of the Blue Collar Workers republicans have been the white collar party it is completely flipped democrats this year are running as the party of big tech and coastal leitz and republicans are running as the party of the worker its a complete reversal and its only happened because of trump so i think you know how divided are we its very difficult to figure out how people will accept this election and again there is its more than just recounting the votes in some states like georgia theres going to be a recount its more than recounting its an audit of the votes can you audit the votes to be able to prove that this was a free and Fair Election if you dont get that audit there are going to be 70000000 americans who refuse to accept the outcome of this election right ben well i totally agree with us someone who follows u. S. Politics its interesting how the class identities of these 2 parties have really flipped but unfortunately dont have any more time to cover this historic speech but it certainly was a pleasure thank you very much our tease ben swan from atlanta in atlanta right now thank you. Alex now 5 days since the u. S. Election and it looks like we might finally have a result of a number of media are projecting that job. Wyden has been elected the 46th president of america having secured 290 Electoral College votes just a reminder 270 are needed for victory and the former v. P. Is win in his home state of pennsylvania has pushed him across that threshold while donald trump stands at 214. 00 we go live now to reese our lic adjunct professor of International Studies at the at the university of San Francisco thanks for joining us on the program now joe biden and come all of us have just given their victory speech does that mean its all over well clearly its not over until the final votes are counted but i think the estimates Associated Press and other media have historically proven that if youre so i think yes for all intents and purposes we have a new president and Vice President come january next year. While the Trump Campaign has obviously been calling crying foul saying observers were excluded from the counting process saying there was fraud involving mail in ballots do you think theres any threat from these claims to joe bidens presumptive victory. No i really dont remember President Trump claimed this before the votes were even cast he was preparing his for his base to believe that there was going to be front and then lo and behold when he was losing there was for a while he called only for recounts in those states in which he lost he counted meetings calling for a complete count of the ballots only in the stir it was the places where he might win so its i think the American People are wise enough and smart and experienced enough to know to distinguish between genuine voter fraud and made up. Information to benefit one person in this case donald trump. What i think one of the major things that this recent election cycle has shown is that the United States is that one of its most a visit points out in a long time maybe even in history perhaps do you think the Biden Administration will be able to unite a divided nation. That is an excellent question and i dont think anybody at this point knows the answer of line claims he wants to. And i think probably on an individual level he doesnt want to but there are very sharp policy differences Mitch Mcconnell has already promised to if are assuming the republicans all the senate to block efforts by and by and for example to appoint members of the cabinet that he runs. And if thats just one hint at what may be coming will the parties be able to agree on a stimulus package that the economy is in horrible shape despite this indication of a stock market and will ordinary americans be able to get adequate money and a. If this serious package mark provide those policy issues will help determine whether the country can reunite as it wont just be everybody singing kumbaya together as the real substantive issues that unite. The different factions and that frankly remains to be seen one glad you brought up domestic policy i want to ask you a little bit about Foreign Policy what kind of what kind of Foreign Policy do you think we can expect from a potential biden ministration specifically the nuclear deal with iran do you think that that would be revived. Well interesting i was just there in contact with some of my sources in iran and they are overjoyed at the defeat of trump because they see him as the person who in their pulled out of the nuclear cord biden has promised to get back in to rejoin their corps and then raise other issues for future negotiations if in fact he carries it out that will be a huge breakthrough and of course part of that has to be lifting the sanctions that trump unilaterally imposed on iran and bring back in russia and china and the other signature east of the agreement and you know go back to where it was before trying to profit i think that can all be done without any congressional approval its a stroke of the pen pull the u. S. Out of stroke of the pen can put the u. S. Back in so thats actually one of the areas that im rather hopeful another would be reestablished in normal relations with cuba and lifting the extra sanctions trump has imposed there for absolutely no reason stop the attacks on china and russia and the sanctions that hes imposed there on the trade sanctions so theres lots of areas that he could make some very positive steps forward in Foreign Policy very very quickly. While this election has really been riddled with legal issues the claims of legal issues and everything lets go back to 2000 the election 2000 when legal legal battles over the status of who won florida took over a month actually do you think were going to be seeing a similar situation here in this election and if so how long do you think it will last well i certainly hope not and i havent yet there were real substantive issues in florida where there was demonstrated even before they started the recount that there was the potential for because of the way the ballots were designed and the votes counted that a recount was was necessary unfortunately took a long time and it was very slow. The issues being raised by the Trump Campaign now theyre really throwing spaghetti at the wall theyre trying to see what sticks and most of it is just falling off so the idea that oh you can call the entire election because some republicans were not allowed allegedly to be in a particular precinct i mean thats a minor issue maybe a. Few handful of votes so far we havent seen any substantive issues in the courts so far have ruled pretty much against. Those kinds of issues so i dont think at this point absent some more serious cases that will be brought forward that will see that long of a delay this Time Research professor of International Studies at the university of San Francisco thank you very much for joining us now if you. Meanwhile President Trump has returned to the white house following Media Projections calling the race for biden he was given the Cold Shoulder as he entered washington. As the president ial motorcade entered the nations capitol it was met by boos with demonstrators chanting loser trump spend saturday morning taking some time out at the golf course and he has so far refused to concede and is promising continued legal challenges in an election season that seemingly deepened the rifts and division of the u. S. Of u. S. Society the 2 camps are out in their hundreds in support of fide and then trump right now with crowds gathering in washington d. C. New york philadelphia and other major cities across the country delays and claims of voter fraud have created rifts and raised questions about the u. S. Democratic system we got reaction from people in new york. Because the whole mess go annoying you know. Youve got to do what better put it people who are married to people you know just what the book put marriage to people and what the right person is in a sea thats good do good put a people of america that dish out is a direct threat to alec democracy to laugh freedom and to out everything that we live for and everything everybody went through and this country will i think hes already proven himself to be a threat to democracy my whole is that we can get past. This all the hysterics of the last 4 years and start moving forward as a country theres no fall out at this point even though hes going to these losses which is probably going to delay the presidency from hes trying to time he needs to find out what hes fighting for because to be some kind of fronts in this country so we need to make sure there is for democracy i think theres a murderer who who remains my whole point is that i hope where were we the people have freedom job. Maybe care and they can be free to be whoever they want to. Earlier my colleague saw taylor and i discussed the election with media commentator to add t. V. And radio host anchor and news analyst gina loudon and political activist Anthony Rogers right. Weve had media lie to us over the last 4 years extensively and so im not very surprised that the media is calling an election which has yet decided once all the votes are counted certainly then someone will have a right to pop some quirks but for right now its a little premature at this point in time what were looking at simply is the math the math is simply not there anymore were this president to claim any irregular you regularity the bath is not there for him or her to be what appears to be president elect the partys lead in states like pennsylvania georgia in the bottom and potentially arizona do you think there needs to be some serious changes or a serious political overhaul after this 2020 lection i think the system works and i think i think it will work itself out i think that our electoral system works i think that our Electoral College works i believe in it when it doesnt work for my party and i believe in it when it does work for my party i also feel the same way about our rule of law about our constitution or about our court system which will sort out this election as well i think that its time for us to look at that and to look at new systems theyre going to make sure that the majority of the peoples votes is that much is the will of the majority of the people thats not the key its right now we were able to engineer victories when the majority of the people. Have not voted for a particular candidate and thats going to continue to be a problem if we are indeed seeing sort of the waning days of the Trump Presidency a lot of people have blamed him for the divisiveness and polarization in society in jena do you think that he has to play even 2nd would you think the biden is a person hes capable of as he says healing the soul of america i think that the evidence speaks for itself that he is gaining the president is gaining minority votes intros and i dont believe that were seeing the waning days of his presidency i believe were seeing the beginning of the 2nd term of his presidency and i believe that youll only see him bringing together more and more people no other president all these other democrat and republican i might add. Ministrations have said they were going to do all these things for an already populations they have it i will agree with that madam in that donald trump did not create the do business of this country but did benefit from the business of this country and utilize the business of this country i think that this country was founded on freedom and free markets and thats whats beautiful about this country is that we can come together as Martin Luther king jr sad people not by the color of their skin but the content of their character i hope we can get there we have to stop deodorizing in c. And it ties in Martin Luther king when it seems as yes it was founded on markets and that commodity of the free market were slaves and we have to be honest and tell the full story and thats going to be the process of us maybe being able to come together we cant have Justice Without peace but we cant have peace or Justice Without truth. Now the reaction to joe bidens projected victory has gone far beyond the u. S. With a range of World Leaders sending their congratulations to both biden and Camilla Harris european politicians were among the 1st to react to the projections earlier charlotte dubinsky told my colleague Saucier Taylor about whats been said. Leaders in europe have been quick to flock to congratulate biden on his victory will start off with van dillen who is the European Commission president she offered her warm congratulations to the Biden Harris Team and she talked about the u. S. And the e. U. As being allies and friends Sebastian Kurtz who is the austrian chancellor tweeted about the shared values between the 2 countries. Whose Prime Minister talked about the u. S. Being able to count on italy is being solid like an evening there was a note from here in stoltenberg who is the chief of nato saying that he knows that joe biden is a strong supporter of the Organization Also congratulations coming through from the Prime Minister of the u. K. The french president and the german chancellor congratulations to joe biden on his election as president of the United States and to command the house on her historic achievement the u. S. Is our most important ally and i look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities from Climate Change to trade and security the americans have chosen their president congratulations joe biden and come all of ours we have a lot to do to overcome todays challenges lets Work Together i look forward to future cooperation with President Biden our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to master of the great challenges of our time well so much congratulations but lets be clear not everybody is going to be welcoming a biden presidency and one persons perhaps not feeling too great about that right now is the slovenian Prime Minister who this week could actually tweeted that he was congratulating trump for his win hes also talked about biden in the past suggesting that biden as president would be one of the weakest u. S. President s in history but lets not forget he has a personal ties in the game he. Because milan in the current 1st lady is of course from slovenia we heard there about reaction from my caller so lets take a look how to biden presidency change relations with germany for example well im glad merkel is a staunch politician somebody who would work with anyone and weve seen her try to work with trump over the last few years but clearly germany is hoping for easier relations in the next 4 years it wants to perhaps strengthen that transatlantic cooperation between the 2 countries some of the issues that germany is going to be most concerned about is the fact of the trade was that donald trump has famously had these trade wars with the e. U. Over various issues theres also the issue of a nude stream to this gas pipeline coming straight from russia into germany the u. S. Currently has sanctions on companies that are working with that and theyre also the bigger issues issues of nato iran all of these germany will be hoping that they will be able to work with an ally and we know that obviously over the last couple of years weve seen how trump has been pulling out of some International Agreement so the Paris Climate Accords that drew a lot of criticism of the Iran Nuclear Deal how do you think biden coming into the oval office could see things change getting the e. U. All hope that maybe some decisions will be even reversed well we know already that biden has been incredibly clear what he makes of some of these agreements you mentioned that the Paris Climate Accord donald trump famously pulled the u. S. Out of saying he wasnt happy with it that sort of caused a bit of a fraction in the relationship between him and frances president emanuel in that corner now biden has been clear that the 1st day of his presidency he would reenter into that agreement and in fact thats one of the things that many of the european leaders the m. P. C. Any piece of been talking about on social media. It is the fact that theyre welcoming that the u. S. Would be back it would be their part of the paris climate to quote in regards to the Uranium Nuclear deal again not something that trump pulled the u. S. Away from something that was negotiated and the a bomb a presidency when of course joe biden was Vice President so there is that joe biden if he is the 46. 00 president of the u. S. Will be somebody who will want to go back to the negotiating table and trying to smooth over those relations but there is a big concern here that if biden is the 46 president hes going to have so much on his plate when it comes to domestic issues whether thats the fallout from the election with that thats the 1000 pandemic whether thats the economy that europe may be waiting before those issues it dealt with. Now there are Media Projections that joe biden has been elected the 46 the president of the United States having secured 290 Electoral College votes just a reminder 270 are needed for victory the former v. P. Is win in his home state of pennsylvania has pushed him across that threshold donald trump meanwhile stands at 214 jubilation there of course but Donald Trumps legal team has filed lawsuits in pennsylvania georgia michigan arizona and nevada and says it could go all the way to the Supreme Court earlier trump claimed he had won on social media after criticizing biden for laying early claims to the white house now if trump gets the Supreme Court to consider his case it would echo the election 20 years ago when it effectively handed the presidency to george w. Bush or shes going underground host. Spoke with trumps of pietschmann lawyer on the president s chances of winning any legal battle. If you lose is the election by losing pennsylvania theres a strong argument that his lawyers d can make that pennsylvania should not count ballots that came in late its a technical argument but its the argument that prevailed in bush versus gore and there are already 3 or 4 justices who agree with that argument but it would take a combination of circumstances during the election to bring that case into a posture where you would win in the court so i think its unlikely you will prevail in the courts but thats his best shot what sort of time scale are we talking about would be about a month as it was in 2000 with the bush and gore i think well d have a result within weeks not months if pennsylvania becomes a key state then i think it will take months do you think always had in mind the 300 judges that were appointed under his Administration Given that he had already been suspecting vote tampering. Well i think he there are a lot of reasons why he wanted to appoint lots of judges his base wants conservative judges but i think part of the reason may very well have been as a backstop as a protection in the event that he had to take the election to court any president would think in those terms supporters of term say he shouldnt have given that press conference on the night saying there is fraud and waited a little bit do you think that will affect any Court Outcome because he was alleging both little fruit even before the election and of course on the night rather than saying this is the state of play at the moment well wait and see i dont think that kind of statement affects the courts that it was done after the polls d will close so i think it was just him saying what he believed and i dont think it will have any impact either electorally or judicially. Well this election has been anything but smooth to trying to looks at whether the disorder could tarnish americas democratic image. Of all the adjectives to describe democracy which stands for giving the people the right to choose who is in charge the man who stood up to take over the white house didnt pick fair stable or strong democracy sometimes messy it sometimes requires a little patience as well but that patience has been rewarded now for more than 240 years with the system of government governance the envy of the world just messy or its just gotten way too messy and his country we have received reports of many irregularities we believe that there are dead voters that have been counted this is fraud this is absolute fraud Trump Campaign says theyre going to court the Biden Campaign says its ready for court fights protests by Trump Supporters and a series of vote fraud allegations by the president himself trump will go to war over this election and that is dangerous for this country there is quite a list of things appearing as cracks in the system take the mail in voting in times of cold it when the nation was meant to rely on it at one point the Postal Service warned it couldnt cope the president flushed the method altogether saying it would lead to a rigged poll if you read some of these pieces there have been plenty of such the media has been questioning that confidence in us democracy here has been watching the mess in the wings with raised eyebrows but the polarization of america should be a warning for europe we are successful because we preach differences between countries and peoples so we benefit together if we lose the ability to compromise i would democracies are in danger it was a blink in america does not quite correspond to the democratic culture we know from the United States its important that the result is the accepted by everyone its easy to be a winner but sometimes it is hoped to be a loser trumps late night speech puts a question mark over his possible 2nd term in office and he starts. Imagine what the 2nd sound would look like when the president directly called for the abolition of the rules of democracy hes called to stop counting votes is a blow to the essence of american democracy heres a voice of concern from allies japan we can say for the United States to get into turmoil and confusion because of the election is a minus for its allies and like minded countries but perhaps the most fascinating thing to observe is the smear by americas foes after so many times washington told them how wrong things are with their elections what a spectacle one says this is the most fragile and election in u. S. History who says that the president who is currently in office hes a rival says trump intends to rig the election this is how u. S. Elections and u. S. Democracy are we do not interfere in the internal affairs of the United States and we hate it when they pretend to give lessons in democracy to the world these beauts carriers and refusal of Election Results were supposed to only take place in developing states things have changed over this have occurred in the us which is no longer synonymous with a stable civilised and consensus based society now just for a giggle let me read out one tweet as an official one country a calls on country b s leaders to show commitment to the democratic process and rule of law we urge all parties groups and individuals to engage in inclusive dialogue to find Peaceful Solutions to their disagreements to heal National Divisions full stop its a tweet by the u. S. Embassy country a in ivory coast country b. From the 4th oh the irony. Now just to recap the u. S. Media has named joe biden the new president elect topping 270. 00 electoral votes with the addition of pennsylvania vote counting and legal challenges by the Trump Campaign looks set to continue for many days meanwhile joe biden and running mate come all of us have just given a victory speech after the race was called in their favor stay with r. T. E. As we keep on top of the latest in the 2020 u. S. President ial election
