Us democratic system. Ole miss go noise you know. You go to put it the American People trust is a drain so i looked up my see from his front and he needs to find out what hes fighting for because there is some kind of fronts in this country. Youre watching our International Special election coverage my name is donald quarter and ill be joining you for the program now its just 5 days since the u. S. Election and it looks like we might finally have a result a number of media are projecting that joe biden has been elected the 46th president of america having secured 290 Electoral College votes just a reminder 270 are needed for victory and the former v. P. Is win in his home state of pennsylvania has pushed him across that threshold donald trump meanwhile stands at 214 recross live now to atlanta and arties ben swan so ben the race is being called for joe biden where do we stand now. Yeah absolutely well let me just say this that the president elect biden is expected to make an acceptance speech declaring victory any minute now walk is the take if it happens joe biden would be the oldest person ever elected president of the United States his running mate harris the only and 1st woman ever to be elected Vice President of the United States so a pretty historic election in that respect now keep in mind joe biden was given the a 290 electoral votes projection as of this morning and the reason i say projection is because obviously these results have not yet been certified and we also know the Trump Campaign is filing a number of lawsuits across the country but lets begin with where we started the day because beginning the day joe biden and harris were at 264 electoral votes adding the state of nevada and the state of pennsylvania they are now at 290. 00 electoral votes 20 above the threshold of 275. 00 where they would have to be in order to course become president and Vice President elect heres a little bit of the announcement this morning the wind coming out harris made a phone call to joe biden to let him know that they had secured that victory take a listen. Early only did it. Here i mean it is the president of the United States. Of america im honored that youve chosen me to lead a great come tree the work ahead of us will be hard but i promise you this i will be a president for all americans whether you voted for me or not i will keep the faith that you have placed in me. Of course this all comes down to certification of the votes and so there is this is not going uncontested donald at this point we are know for a fact that President Trump is contesting the election in a number of states including in michigan in pennsylvania in nevada and late today in the state of arizona as well and possibly even in the state of georgia which is automatically go into a recount. We all know why joe biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him they dont want the truth to be exposed the simple fact is this election is far from over. So it did to give you some Historical Context here go back to the year 2000 is the last time we had court cases surrounding the election vote that was al gore versus george w. Bush in the year 2000 its around and around one state the state of florida this time around were looking at anywhere from 4 to 5 simultaneous lawsuits in a number of different states and all those lawsuits have different claims from Voter Suppression to republicans not being allowed to have their vote cured thats what its called curing the vote where you fix ballots that are not properly filled out whereas democrats did in some states the claims of dead voters voting in some states that poll watchers were not allowed to actually monitor the vote as it happened the question will be which courts will actually take up these lawsuits and whether or not any or all of these lawsuits rise all the way to the level of the u. S. Supreme court thats what it really comes down to but also again for that Historical Context in the one state where al gore contested the election in the year 2000 the counting in that state went on for an additional 37 days who knows how long it will go on here in the u. S. Beyond election day if we have multiple lawsuits moving forward again in multiple states well then it seems likely that this election isnt going to be decided in the ballot box but rather in the court room. Thank you very much for those election updates. Now Donald Trumps personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani has stressed the election the allegations of fraud will see the election end up in the courts. Lawsuit will be brought starting on monday. But the 1st time it was discovered was here in pennsylvania just a couple of days ago. The people you see behind me are just a few of about id say 50 to 60 poll watchers who will all testify that they were uniformly deprived of their right to inspect any single part of the mail in ballots as you know from the very beginning the mail in ballots were a source of some degree of skepticism if not a lot of skepticism as being innately prone to fraud but we cross live now to lauren chen host of the podcast pseudointellectual lauren thank you very much for joining us on the program lets start with the Trump Campaign there crying foul there saying observers were excluded from the counting process saying there was there was fraud involved with the mail in ballots do you think that these claims are a threat to joe bidens presumptive victory. I think they absolutely could be and im glad that your coverage is being very specific in mentioning that although joe biden is predicted to win the election he has not actually won as of yet the media does not get to call who is and who is not president i think its completely reasonable for the Trump Campaign after seeing some new reports of republicans being denied entry into the polls of their watchers being denied entry of people who are dead actually casting ballots and new reports of backdating from u. S. Postal Service Employees there is definitely enough to investigate here and i am someone who is not a fan of joe biden but if he has rightfully won the election thats one thing but if theres been fraud as many suspect there has been that absolutely needs to be investigated 1st. Yeah speaking about these investigations we can go back to 2016 when trump one that led to a lot of legal scrutiny and a years long investigation now that trump himself suspects Election Fraud do you think the political establishment and the Justice System are going to react the same way as they did in 2016. I doubt it with trumps election there were 4 years of accusations that the russians had helped him become elected it was 4 years and i think around 30000000. 00 of taxpayer money was spent investigating those allegations which as we all know have come to nothing now in 2020 we actually have video footage of things like ballots arriving in unmarked events and people correcting ballots which you were not just allowed to do so theres a lot more evidence of voter fraud than there ever was for in foreign interference in the 26000. 00 election and i hope as to not be a total hypocrites that the people who are all upset about electorate Election Integrity when donald trump was elected have those same concerns right now. As weve seen in the selection almost half of the country voted for trump and half in for biden and in general that its been a record turnout do you think bidens going to be able to unite this divided nation i do not think so sadly as of yet biden has been very conciliatory toward people who didnt vote for him which i think on his behalf is absolutely the right move but we have to remember we have also people like c. Alexander kostya cortez who was a member of his own party saying that now they need to be collecting lists of all of the people who have helped trump and enabled him and voted for him so you cant simultaneously be calling for unity and for healing also making lists of your political opponents it just doesnt work like that and i think there are a lot of trumpeters out there who are willing to accept joe Biden Victory if that is what the courts find but they are going to be a little bit more hesitant to actually embrace people who for the past 4 years have been calling them racist bigots or russian bots. While staying on this topic of division at the same time democrats have often accused donald trump of dividing the nation is trumps policy and language divison of in your opinion can he be blamed for the unrest gripping the country do you think well in my opinion there is a huge contrast between what trumps policy is and the media persona that is surrounding him if you actually look at toms policies a lot of it is extremely popular especially his economic policies was always polled very very well on things like deregulating the economy and actually under his administration we saw things like record low unemployment for several groups including women hispanics and africanamericans if you look at the things that he tweets on the other hand those statements are a lot more divisive although i do want to say that even though the media enjoys portraying trump as this very very controversial figure he actually netted more votes this time around than he did in 2016 regardless of who the victor of the election ultimately is so im not going to deny that trump is with with certain controversies but i think a lot more americans embrace him and actually perhaps even admire his his his blunt negotiation style then people on the east and west coast big cities would have people believe well weve spoken a bit now about trump and biden but lets shift gears to the u. S. Electoral system in general a lot of people during this election season have been questioning whether the u. S. Democratic system is effective at all the Electoral College the winner take all system do you think it needs a Major Overhaul after the 2020 elections. Well when it comes to the Electoral College i know especially on the left had there have been calls to abolish our right to have the. President just be elected by simple majority rule regardless of which states people live and i think that would be absolutely going against the intentions behind the constitution right the idea of the constitution is that it is states not individuals that choose the president and when we look at now how many people live in places like los angeles or new york city or even somewhere like miami i do not think it is fair for people in the middle of the country to have their lives decided by people whose lifestyles policies and wealth and education levels all of those issues differ greatly from their own and when it comes to Something Like i guess we have seen the democrats push for mail in ballots very very heavily this past year they say under the great the guise of coronavirus mail in ballots are a concept that has been rejected by many other countries because they are simply not secure and i dont think thats a controversial thing to say the chain of custody cannot be ensured with a mail in ballot in the United States over the weeks leading to election we saw people reporting that they received multiple ballots to their address addresses or sorry ballots for people who do not live at the address weve had reports of ballots being stolen all of these are issues that really undermine democracy and i know that there is this push right now to make it seem as if wanting only legal counts to vote is some effort to subvert the american way of life but thats simply not true of an election is not secure then nobodys vote matters and again regardless of who ends up winning this election this is something that the american political system absolutely needs to figure out because right now its almost i hate to say this but like watching a 3rd world country try to run their elections this is not something you expect to see from a 1st world democracy well or in on the topic of coronavirus it seems like its been quite overshadowed by this election i mean people from both sides of the political spectrum going out in the streets and we havent heard joe biden who has repeatedly criticized large gatherings put it particularly at trump rallies for violating social distancing so do you think hes going to call on his supporters to stop mass celebrations. There is no way that i think that is going to happen its actually very curious as soon as the media came forward and announced a Biden Victory prematurely i might add we also had reports of things like concerts indoor concerts apparently actually not being as big of a threat when it comes to corona virus as was previously thought how strange and we see right now there are tens of thousands of biden supporters out celebrating his victory these are the very same people who insisted that they would not feel safe voting in person on election day therefore the mail in ballots were unnecessary unfortunately i think that corona virus has been used as a Political Tool and i think its fair to say perhaps by both sides in order to push through agendas that otherwise would not have been acceptable and there have been many people myself included who believe that if joe biden were to win the election that on you know by the end of november coronavirus would essentially be over and i think right now thats what were seeing right even amy county barrett swearing in ceremony was labeled a super spreader event now with tens of thousands of biden supporters out in the streets we hear nothing from the media who was just a couple days ago so so concerned about the level of contagious activity going on its ridiculous but we can approach this from another angle from even beyond the borders of the United States a lot of people both within and within the u. S. And outside have been saying that trumps fraud allegations could harm Democratic Institutions do you think this whole situation is going to harm the u. S. His reputation as a beacon of democracy and rule of law with its allies. I think the u. S. Reputation was already harmed by the fact that they do not universally require voter id things like that the fact that mail in ballots as as a system were so widespread use this past election even though it has so many followers if you ask me that is where the real undermining of the American Democratic system is happening and its funny issues like voter id are so contentious in the United States people who want them want that as a policy are labeled racist and bigoted you all know the drill by now i think even though when you look at other countries canada included many European Countries it is completely the norm so i think when it comes to american politics voting as as an activity itself has become politicized and i think these are flaws in the American Election system that have existed long before now its only now that were really seeing them come under the microscope and i hope as a result of the lawsuits whether trump is declared victorious or not that the American People realize that there are serious flaws in their election system and if they dont fix them right now they may never have another duly elected president again and i dont mean to sound hyperbolic but that is exactly what is at stake here just one more question lauren so weve seen a lot of on rest in the United States over the past couple months several months connected to the lockdown coronavirus but were also seeing a lot of it now connected to the political system and the election do you think were going to be seeing protracted on rest gripping the country in the in the coming months. Unfortunately i dont see any other way forward i was in d. C. At the time of the election and even before the winter had been definitively announced there were people protesting in the streets and if you look at many major cities d. C. New York Los Angeles restaurants cafes and residences were barring their windows putting up plywood in order to protect themselves this is not something that should be happening somewhere like america and if we look at the past several years in general i would say we have seen an increase in the prevalence of Political Violence happening a lot of people were hopeful that with a biden presidency a lot of this would kind of die down especially among the far left who believe that biden will be more amenable to their policies than ever would be i am not so sure if we look at where the worse of these riots have been happening places like minneapolis these are already under democrat controlled the same goes for new york as well i hope for the best Going Forward but if you are an american resident in a large city all i have to say to you is be safe orange and host of the podcast pseudointellectual thank you very much for your input it was very valuable. Thank you. Meanwhile President Trump has returned to the white house following Media Projections calling the race for biden he was given the Cold Shoulder as he entered washington. As the president ial motorcade entered the nations capitol it was met by boos with demonstrators chanting loser trump spend sunday morning taking some time out at the golf course and he has so far refused to concede and is promising continued legal challenges its been an election season that seemingly deepened the rifts and division of u. S. Society into camps or out in their hundreds in support of biden and trump right now with crowds gathering in washington d. C. New york philadelphia and other major cities across the country delays and claims of voter fraud have created rifts and raised questions about the u. S. Democratic system we got reaction from people in new york. Because the whole mess go annoying you know. Youve got to do what better put it people the American People you know just what the book put American People and what the right person is in a sea thats good do good put a people of america that you shot is a direct threat to alec democracy to allow freedom and to allow everything that we live for and everything everybody went flying this country so i think hes already proven himself to be a threat to democracy my whole is that we can get past. This all the hysterics of the last 4 years and start moving forward as a country is no 05 at this point even though hes going to losses which is probably going to delay the presidency from hes right and he needs to find out what hes fighting for because to be some kind of fronts in this country so we need to make sure we do so within the christian thing theres a murderer who who remains my whole point is that i hope where we people have freedom job. Maybe care and they can be free to be whoever they want to. Be reaction to joe bidens projected victory has gone far beyond the u. S. And with a range of World Leaders sending their congratulations with both biden and come all the harris european politicians were among the 1st to react to the projections earlier Charlotte Dubinsky told my colleague saw taylor about whats being said. Leaders in europe have been quick to flock to congratulate biden on his victory will start off with vanderlyn who is the European Commission president she offered one congratulations to the Biden Harris Team and she talked about the u. S. And the e. U. As being allies and friends Sebastian Kurtz who is the austrian chancellor tweeted about the shared values between the 2 countries. Prime minister talked about the us being able to count on italy is being a solid like an evening there was a note from stoltenberg who is the chief of nato saying that he knows that joe biden is a strong supporter of the Organization Also congratulations coming through from the Prime Minister of the u. K. The french president and the german chancellor congratulations to joe biden on his election as president of the United States and to come our harris on her historic achievement the u. S. Is our most important ally and i look forward to working closely together on our shared priorities from Climate Change to trade and security the americans have chosen their president congratulations joe biden and come all of ours we have a lot to do to overcome todays challenges lets Work Together i look forward to future cooperation with President Biden our transatlantic friendship is irreplaceable if we are to master of the great challenges of our time well so much congratulations but lets be clear not everybody is going to be welcoming a biden presidency and one persons perhaps not feeling too great about that right now is a slovenian Prime Minister who this week could actually tweeted that he was congratulating trump for his win hes also talked about biden in the past suggesting that biden as president would be one of the weakest u. S. President s in history but lets not forget he has a personal ties in the game. Because milan in the current 1st lady is of course from slovenia we heard there about reaction from my caller so lets take a look how to biden presidency change relations with germany for example well im glad merkel is a staunch politician somebody who would work with anyone and weve seen her try to work with trump over the last few years but clearly germany is hoping for easier relations in the next 4 years it wants to perhaps strengthen the transatlantic cooperation between the 2 countries some of the issues that germany is going to be most concerned about is the fact of the trade was that donald trump has famously had these trade wars with the e. U. Over various issues theres also the issue of a nude stream to this gas pipeline coming straight from russia into germany the u. S. Currently has sanctions on companies that are working with that and theyre also the bigger issues issues of nato iran all of these germany will be hoping that they will be able to work with an ally and we know that obviously over the last couple of years weve seen how trial has been pulling out of some International Agreement so the Paris Climate Accords that drew a lot of criticism of the Iran Nuclear Deal how do you think biden coming into the oval office could see things change getting the e. U. All hope that maybe some decisions will be even reversed well we know already that biden has been incredibly clear what he makes of some of these agreements you mentioned that the Paris Climate Accord donald trump famously pulled the u. S. Out of saying he wasnt happy with it that sort of caused a bit of a fraction in the relationship between him and frances president a man you are not corn now biden has been clear that the 1st day of his presidency he would reenter into that agreement and in fact thats one of the things that many of the european leaders the m. P. C. Any piece of been talking about on social me. Is the fact that theyre welcoming that the u. S. Would be back it would be their part of the paris climate to quote in regards to the Uranium Nuclear deal again not something that trump pulled the u. S. Away from something that was negotiated and the a bomb the presidency when of course joe biden was Vice President so there is that joe biden if he is the 46. 00 president of the u. S. Will be somebody who will want to go back to the negotiating table and trying to smooth over those relations but there is a big concern here that if biden is the 46 president hes going to have so much on his plate when it comes to domestic issues whether thats the fallout from the election with that thats the 1000 pandemic whether thats the economy that europe may be waiting before those issues it dealt with. The media are projecting the joe biden has been elected the 46th president of the United States having secured 290 Electoral College votes just a reminder 270 are needed for victory the former v. P. Is win in his home state of pennsylvania has pushed him across that threshold donald trump at the same time stands at 214 theres jubilation there but Donald Trumps legal team has filed lawsuits in pennsylvania georgia michigan arizona and nevada and they say it could go all the way to the Supreme Court earlier trump claimed he had won on social media after criticizing biden for laying early claims to the white house now if trump gets to the Supreme Court can consider his case it would echo the election 20 years ago when it effectively handed the presidency to george w. Bush is going underground host option spoke with trumps impeachment lawyer on the president s chances of winning any legal battle. If you lose is the election by losing pennsylvania theres a strong argument that his lawyers d can make that pennsylvania should not count ballots that came in late its a technical argument but its the argument that prevailed in bush versus gore and there are already 3 or 4 justices who agree with that argument but it would take a combination of circumstances during the election to bring that case into a posture where you would win in the court so i think its unlikely it will prevail in the courts but thats his best shot what sort of time scale are we talking about would it be about a month as it was in 2000 with bush and gore i think well d have a result within weeks not months if pennsylvania becomes a key state then i think it will take months do you think from always had in mind the 300 judges that were appointed under his Administration Given that he had already been suspecting vote tampering well i think he there are a lot of reasons why he wanted to appoint lots of judges his base wants conservative judges but i think part of the reason may very well have been as a backstop as a protection in the event that he had to take the election to court any president would think in those terms supporters of term say he shouldnt have given that press conference on the night saying there is fraud and waited a little bit do you think that will affect any Court Outcome because he was alleging both little fruit even before the election and of course on the night rather than saying this is the state of play at the moment well wait and see i dont think that kind of statement affects the course it was done after the polls d will close so i think it was just him saying what he believed and i dont think it will have any impact either electorally or traditionally. What were going to interrupt the normal program now is joe biden is just about to get ready to speak for the. First time since the race was called in his favor you see theyre taking the stage so lets listen to what theyre going to have to say. Ah. Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
