Yeah they were part of the ku klux klan right there in portland and it mystifies a lot of people to think that because they always tend to identify only southern cities as having that the racist background but it does have a very racist past and whats going on now and this is really interesting because this goes to the question that you started with manila is so what we have are not just africanamericans protesting obviously because theres not enough of them but not after marriage africanamericans who are protesting right now in portland so thats creating a little bit of a conflict even in the Africanamerican Community some people think that those who are protesting are coopting the black lives matter cause so they can get their grievances heard thats in fact what the president head of the end is saying meanwhile the former head of the end of the piece says no no no we want don africanamericans all kinds of people to go out there as he said and join our cause it makes us. Because better so its kind of an interesting dicey situation on both sides right now as people who tend to want to get their grievances heard more often than not it has to do with the economy wage discrimination and do wars are out there as centrally protesting under the guise of being part of the black lives matter protest and thats not to say that they dont believe in the black lives matter cause as well but i think theyre turning it more into an umbrella protest and thats whats going on in protest right now well as far as let me answer this rick i think a lot of people listening to a little bit that little bit of that history raised an eyebrow or 2 to learn that the k. K. K. Had prominent and cortlandt oregon of all places once upon a time so could perhaps now what were seeing could this be an over correction by the young people of Portland Oregon. Well i think the young people of Portland Oregon have long manifested a desire to be heard thats why weve seen especially in western cities like portland and seattle some of the things that we havent seen in eastern cities and by the way and going back to my media. Comparison earlier remember these are cities the generally dont get the kind of coverage that we see from places on the east because the media in the United States still is predominated by new york city empire and other places like that and david west get some attention portland doesnt but for for exactly for decades now portland has been the epicenter if you will of all things against the establishment it has been where young people where people have had antiwar movements yeah where some people have actually even pushed the on the lope and gone beyond that as weve seen in the past so i think what were getting now is yeah you could you could almost safely use the word. Opportunistic you have people who long had these grievances long use them as an opportunity to have protested these cities along called the george floyd along called black lives matter and they embrace it yeah and it ended up this sort of whats going on this 10 oclock at night and now and its mostly on black right i mean obviously the city of portland over almost 81 percent white and real quickly rick in my last minute with you speaking as 2 people of color here asian women hispanic man when the end of the 4 or the current head of the end when they say they dont want white people to coopt this movement speaking as people of color ourselves do you think this b. L. M. Movement is something that could only be felt truly truly felt by people of color or specifically black people.
