Ok what it what do you make of this threat is it is a good idea to open all schools you know larry the fact that politicians and journalists are involved in medical Decision Making to be is just sort of extraordinary. The American Academy of pediatrics has come out very forcefully that they want schools opened in the fall for sure they have taken the position that lack that withholding further socialization and education is going to have untold harm on children i can tell you personally im not a pediatrician but i certainly would back the very cadre of pediatrics in their opinion but ive been hearing constantly from parents of 18 to 15 year olds that the level of distressed depression anxiety fear is so high that im afraid we are change the trajectory of an entire generation by scaring them to death that literally they believe that by going outside they and their family will be destroyed so of course of course you tell that to an 8 year old theyre going to concoct a fantasy where thats their reality. Going back to school would give them a sense of normalization re entering the educational process i mean we all know how important that is so i guess i dont see it as a political issue i look to the American Academy of pediatrics and do what they tell me you must hold off the foxy and high respect what i do and then why i am wanting this all the time what con what does concern you drew about this well could i take could be i knew we were going to have a giant uptick i mean thats what concerns you right now dr foushee is someone ive been looking to and and been a guide for me since the since i was working in the aids epidemic back in that early eighties and back then he was encouraged the reason i got involved in radio actually was he was encouraging Young Physicians to go out there and educate and change behavior we were sort of marching with the orders that if we didnt change behavior 10000000 people died 10000000 people died that was the number we were chanting we ended up with 175000 deaths it was a tragedy that i had to bear witness to and i will never forget and most the people who bore witness are not with us anymore so we weve forgotten that chapter but i have since then been looking to dr foushee for my guidance really for all things Infectious Disease out of the c. D. C. So when he said this is not the flu we should be concerned they are not is very serious this is a this is something to be taken very seriously just do it he tells you hes conservative but hes extremely careful and with the language and how he analyzed the data and currently available wisdom when he gives a recommendation he will keep us safe if we follow it now if he comes out against the American Academy of pediatrics i would go with option. What do you make of the World Health Organization now saying that there is evidence emerging that the arab on spread can occur with this virus what do you make of that well i i dont understand why that the headline because we have known that for the last several months that the the transmission on objects and surfaces is relatively uncommon but this virus is transmitted person to person and the effort at the probability of transmission is determined by proximity and duration of that proximity end of story i mean thats how its transmitted centrally nose to nose its a its a cold virus that has been more to give it these really are very Long Properties one of the things that concerns me larry and you mentioned that a fact i did not mention is the inconsistent messaging that is coming out of Public Health generally i would you know because ive been spent most of my life giving Public Health messages in the media ive learned how people react to inconsistent hypocritical or exaggerated messages and how would you imagine the literalists who youre hearing confusing messages are they see that the critical is an exaggerated how would you react as a private citizen when when they get when they tell you what to do after giving inconsistent message and yeah no thats right you have no my what i dont know anymore you know i dont want to do anymore well unfortunately thats what thats whats happening and and what have i called reefer madness. I call it river madness i call the reefer madness and dream because the 1st time i saw it was with cannabis when the Public Health grossly overstated the risk of cannabis every generation since now has rejected all Public Health messaging around cannabis theres been no rational conversation since that overstatement in the 1970 s. Then i got involved the h. I. B. And aids epidemic and we made it sound drum matic and now i cant get young people to wear condoms so here we are 30 years later still the effect of excessive exaggerated messaging and now were saying well you can go out and do this but you cant do that and you cant be in a barbecue but you could be outside with your 30000 of your peers we need to make the message very clear because that people will stop missing messages listening to us and the problem is we have a squandered opportunity here if we dont wear the mask this is going to really spiral out of control so if youre going to go to a barbecue or go to a demonstration or go to a public event where the damn mask but we have a prop a president who doesnt leave us a president who does not wear a mask a president a mask so you have a president who claimed 99 percent of coronavirus cases a totally harmless will that things actually if you if you if you look at the face how the rate of the current estimated let me say 2 things i wish to wear a mask and the political rally in oklahoma was me watching people get infected and live on live t. V. That was bad that was not ok those people not Wearing Masks made me cringe that 99 percent number if you take estimated cases not documented cases if you if you take if you take proven cases again we have estimated case to prove cases if you have you have established cases the fatality rate is around 4 percent if you take estimated cases its around one percent in which case 99 percent of people recover. So it depends on how you interpret your data. What in all about the long term impact of being infected with this well again the vast vast vast majority of people who have millions of cases get through this just fine even even if we accept the free tally rate of 4 percent 96 percent of people do fine now amongst that 9 but lets take the 96 percent recovery rate as the highest you know a reasonable number to look at amongst that 96 percent what percentage have lingering effects realities we dont know the full full number there yet we knew what we all hear anecdotal reports about people having teagan neuropathies and persistent pulmonary problems and you know shortness of breath that go on for months many time ive been studying the 1918 influenza outbreak and the neuro biological slash psychiatric effect of that virus was profound not just from diseases of despair which is what were seeing now with this virus people are being locked down so long without losing their jobs forced into poverty disease of despair are skyrocketing but were also seeing what they saw in the 1918 flu which is mood disturbances thought disturbances neurological disturbances that are very troubling but thats what happens with that virus that that is just what happens how out of a herd immunity how does that impact the ultimate resolution of this crisis. Well people argue about whether you know what the number is for herd immunity and whether we can ever achieve herd immunity i i must say i have hopes for a vaccine but i dont have hopes for a herd of unity prior to the vaccine personally i feel so strongly and this science around some of the newer vaccines particularly r. N. A. Vaccines are so exciting that i would like to be if any anybody youre connected with through watching this can get me in a phase 3 trial i would love to be human subject particular for the r. N. A. Vaccine i cant get the vaccine fast enough that science looks good they look very safe the issue is going to be is scaling up to the point where you can give it to hundreds of millions of people thats going to be an ancient challenge do you worry about flying commercial ask your about of of of of for sure and if i were i suspect if i were overs for sure if i were 75 probably a pirate o. J. Age of 70 i would not i would not i would take the recommendation generally to limit my activity now i am planning to try to fly my friends that do fly tell me the incidents of covert amongst flight attendants and pilots low to 0 which is very reassuring i will wear a mask and i will use the u. V. Wands and ill be all kinds of stuff to to reduce my risk and again its not just the flying its also what goes on in the airport and through the securities and in the cars when you leave the airport theres lots of opportunity for exposure so obviously high Risk Behavior what in all of this concern to the most right now. A couple things larry. What concerns me is that were squandering an opportunity if you look at the theres a web site coded 9000 dot health data that or the university of washington Charles Murray puts out and he shows in graphic format exactly what we can do with universal mass compliance exactly what how far down we can press this epidemic just by simply having a barrier over our nose and mouth between you and me its and again optimally not optimally really for it to work both people have to have the barrier if we do that 3 we will get this thing under control i was very optimistic about that the problem is that so much of being what is being reported is panic toward every single story i see about coping now i have to go look at the data myself i have to parse out whats going on theres a county here locally in los angeles that yesterday i was reporting on they said that they were being overrun by cobe it i went back and looked at the data they had 13 percent hospital there they were 96 percent full but only not 13 percent was coated cases now to me the real story there is that people werent getting their medical care they were accumulating illnesses that were getting severe and now theyre coming in and of course hospitals are overwhelmed that should be our story so the spirit we should what concerns me is people arent getting their medical care people are having diseases of despair skyrocketing overdoses are off depression is up suicide is up and because of the panic in the press this is all getting worse so i would wish that rather than people out there to reporting on these things resist the urge to engage in panic porn and try to stay focused on please everybody wear your mask yet your medical care disease and despair are up take care of your Mental Health part of that is losing your job and being forced into poverty so lets take care of the people that need work at the job that need support lets do those things not freak out about numbers that fluctuates as they will. Welcome back politicking dr drew pinsky internist addiction specialist host of podcasts including ask dr drew and dr drew after dark do you expect things would change if theres a minute change in the administration. If joe biden is president im sure things will change i mean listen i just the tone will change you know as i told you before the break the thing that concerns me is the heightened tone the you know people breathlessly with their hair on fire running for with every report i feel like that would that would go away i do not feel i may be in a minority here but i do not feel as though theres should be some unifying federal policy i think that may be a grave error because as i said before this is such a patchwork of local epidemiology to have one giant making but plan will absolutely be appropriate for some areas and inappropriate for others let me let the other thing i you know the lot of focus on testing testing testing i mean at this point im not sure what what testing does for us lets say we could test everybody in the country today right now some by some magic what would we do with that information how would we track it and and you know and more than the devil are all. But be very careful these tests are inconsistent and they and they change across the course of the infection so doing you know and they say that a slice in of time in a given moment does not give you that much information youll have to do it again in 3 days 6 days 9 days 12 days you have to keep doing it if if your desire if youre in the point of. What youre trying to achieve is to identify everybody and their contacts it would take not just one moment it would take multiple moments over quite a period of time so im concerned about that your answer then dont test no no thats not my time i test my might my answer is test were doing a great job here in los angeles by the way but testing my test as it might test symptomatic contacts do it but with the problem is were relying on individuals to go out and do that i think people are pretty motivated to do so. Concerning this whole issue are you more optimistic or pessimistic im depressed i imagine thats probably you know i mean im depressed because ive been you know you know weve all had our lives sort of either turned upside down or taken away from us and the really hard part is for me im used to planning ahead seeing a future you know building things down the road it thats been and i just see an empty set because i its so one certain i dont know what to anticipate and thats why i find that very depressing i am an Eternal Optimist i believe well get on the other side of this but i dont know how much suffering were going to have to go through before we do. Oh as a great guest thanks for your expertise thanks larry the bit it could battle over a book by Donald Trumps niece mary continues only i spoke with my problem tony a long time Trial Attorney and host of americas lawyer with my cap antonio about this headline grabbing legal drama heres that interview they have a stop publication mike. There are a lot of questions swirling around about the release of trumps mary trumps book and they all are going to depend on whats actually in the nondisclosure agreement that she signed 20 years ago marys lawyers are arguing that the n. D. A. Is too broad in scope and it cant be enforced because that this isnt actually its actually an argument its made by other people have been bound by india as regarding donald trump and those cases were very successful her lawyers are claiming that the trunk children entered into an agreement on false pretenses then the whole thing would be considered no and void an interesting part about this there may be what we call in this is a guess but there may be what we call liquidated damages involved in this and what that means is there has there doesnt have to be a showing of damages there simply has to be a showing that the contract has been violated and then that that liquidated damages mt falls on on mary trump most of the time youll see a Publishing Company like simon and schuster say look we will handle liquidated damages we think we can make enough money on this book that were going to go forward anyway and any damages that ensued from there will will go ahead and handle that Daniel Ellsberg is a great example the Daniel Ellsberg case with the pentagon papers understand those papers they were they were published and Daniel Ellsberg was you know he was indicted in the end he was not prosecuted so the point is this mary trump is a risk simon and schuster is not at risk just like in the in Daniel Ellsberg case ellsberg was at risk but the publisher was not at risk because they argued 1st amendment and they also argued that this notion of prior restraint on publishing or prepublication injunction should not be considered by the court and they were successful so i think the book comes out and i think what mary trump is going to have to understand is that has ramifications that are going to flow after that. Its rare that a book is stopped from publication as in. Its very rare its a for its a very fundamental 1st amendment right the court looks at yeah there may be some issues but the 1st issue were going to look at is are we are we willing to enjoin a publication especially a prepublication and this judge has said look there are already thousands of these books out there what good is it going to do anyway i think simon and schuster is in good shape i cant say that mary trump is in good shape because we havent had a chance to look at what that in da is or whether theres liquidated damages in that india. So at this point its impossible to say whos going to win on this well i thinks i think simon and schuster is going to win i think the book is going to be a bestseller i think its going to generate a lot of money and the only question is who wins between the trump family and mary trump as i said mary trump is saying look the reason this thing is null and void the reason the n. D. A. Is no in void is because there was fraud in the disclosure of assets that the trunk family came forward with and so thats going to be an element theyre going to argue the the trump family are is going to obviously argue you can go forward with this but your damages are going to be substantial she simply has to take the risk maybe simon and schuster will step in to handle the damages that might result here because it make the president look good to beef by having it. I think its a big mistake i think every time i think every time trump steps up and fight Something Like he did with bolton or that the publications are going to continue to look his base is his base his base at 40 percent isnt going to change theyre going to stay there we guard this of what he does but i think people that are in his base that what he have the high i think its a mistake for him to do that he doesnt need to do it because ultimately the person seeking that publication is going to prevail now bolton has another problem boltons issue comes down to theres certain theres certain steps that he has to take with the federal government to be able to release certain elements of whats contained in his book he didnt do that so there you cant complete you cant compare the mary trump case with what happened to bolton ok now lets go some of the areas authorities arrested. His lame actually last week. Jeffrey have seen his alleged neighbor in the sexual abuse case donald trump was a close friend of the staff seem he was the expect him to come out in the trial of miss macks will shoot turn states evidence right. Yeah i think its isnt as the f. B. I. Mention maxwells been slithering around all over the globe for 12 months since her buddy Jeffrey Epstein was arrested last summer they finally found her in New Hampshire on its palatial estate that she had purchased with cash from interestingly enough a Shell Company that both epstein and she had set up maxwells been hit with 6 charges one being perjury for lying to investigators years ago and the rest are all related to her acting as a groomer in a recruiter for these young girls that Jeffrey Epstein and his powerful friends abused over the years an attorney interesting part of the story an attorney named brad edwards is spectacular attorney out of south florida has been working tirelessly on this case and this is a big step forward for him in this fight for justice for the victims but heres what we know so far maxwell has been accused of actively seeking out these young girls all over the world and putting him in an epsteins ring she would according to the indictment this is the way the indictment reads she acted as a groomer of sort of sorts for these girls showing them how to perform massages on epstein and other men her presence in the room with the girls larry seemed to put the girls at ease if you read this if you read this indictment and make them think that everything was ok that what they were doing was perfectly normal what maxwell did to these young girls obviously is deplorable heres the interesting part of the case though maxwell is going to say that there was there was a nonprosecution a prosecution agreement that was signed ok and it was signed back when epstein was 1st prosecuted epsteins palace his political pals came to is a in worked out this nonprofit prosecution agreement 2008 it included a phrase that max will his lawyers are trying to use to protect her from prosecution it said that not only would abstain not. Be prosecuted but also his coconspirators would not be prosecuted maxwell was an expert explicitly mentioned in that agreement but it it it contained a phrase that i think the phrase was not limited to people that were named in the dogman so virtually anybody the arguments going to be made that anybody that was surrounding that indictment anybody that was surrounding the 1st epstein problem that they are absolved from all this and heres why that argument might not work my guess is the argument will not work because it only pertains to crimes that were committed in florida and much like epsteins arrest last year new charges emerge that werent related to florida allowing prosecutors to go after him this is the same kind of problem that theyve got so you know the truth is i dont think this effort by maxwell has a chance because because there are so many problems with that nonprosecution agreement the church the judge was totally dysfunctional absolutely dysfunctional where it came to his job the prosecutors were dysfunctional they didnt do their job the the victims in that case under florida law should have had the right to know what was going to happen in the pleading in the in the in the deal that was made they werent made aware of that the long florida is very specific about that the chances of her of her winning on this little glitch i think is almost nonexistent but thats what youre going to hear about a lot that shes been absolved in all this because she was shes protected under that nonprosecution agreement.
