In the world corrupted you need to descend. To join us in the death. Or a mate in the shallows. Greetings and salyut a shim is all right as we now enter the Halfway Point of june which in turn is the out way point to 2021 thing we have discovered is that here in the United States of america despite the many times our government and Corporate Culture has attempted to suppress or coopt it the pritam of speech is still alive and well its been flowing through the veins of 2020 like painkillers through congress or sudafed through our president. Freedom of speech and expression have brought us both the just like the political protest against oppression and Police Violence that followed the murder of george floyd to the incredibly stupid and dangerous protests we saw over folks having to wear masks and being asked to stay at home following the outbreak of covert 19 whatever one feels about the causes whether you are for or against it you cannot deny that the power of free speech has been on display all over 2020 so far but that hasnt stopped efforts on both the right and the left of the political spectrum here in the United States in their attempts to tear down our freedoms of speech and expression when its used against their own beliefs or agendas take this week where both republican and democrat media organizations politicians and keyboard warriors have been hyperventilating over recent scandal involving d n. B. C. News google ads and the federalist according to a very conservative vehicle the National Review on tuesday this week google threatened to ban the right wing political news website from the federalist from generating advertising revenue on the companys platform in response to posts in the federalist comments section that allegedly violated googles policies regarding dangerous or derogatory content. And this supposed that attack on free speech or advertising dollars came after n. B. C. News referred the company to complaints against the pub rolls and the financial blog 0 hedge compiled by the u. K. Based center for countering digital hate which then of course prompted or was the excuse for the United States senator out of missouri missouri josh powell way to put forward yet another new attempt by the u. S. Congress to rein in the legal immunity granted to social Media Companies by that notorious section 230. 00 Big Communications and decency act remember that is the section that prevents companies from being sued or held liable for what we the public decide to write or publish their platforms. And its at these crossroads in the battle over online free speech that we are going to start watching the hawks if you want to know whats going on in a city streets. That are so youd like to see that this is joyce state and see rolls royce great city displays systemic deception is the late show which i would say brings up the field as. Well im watching the hogs i am i robot or. Oil boy emission them both sides of the political aisles wrote fire this week in this kind of like weird footnote to everything going over like you know google ads and conservatives being censored on major on google and all these social media platforms its fascinating to see all this plays out but really to me its just kind of 2 sides being really loud over a problem the but its not really that much of a problem no i absolutely agree i think that you know an argument of censorship specifically with some of these large tech giant platforms youre seeing members of both sides of the aisle be extremely frustrated in trying to get their message across. From what you said earlier theres a little bit of upset around just how. Much people are able to say in these Comment Sections but we also know that the Comment Section is where stability goes to die the Comment Section of anything so the expectation that youre probably going to see something negative is always pretty high and i dont think that any you know we any organization should have to be liable for what somebody says in the comments section no not at all and i think thats ridiculous and were going to talk to them if they want to have a Comment Section a lot of things you know a lot of our newspapers online or publications online they dont even have a Comment Section anymore specifically because its not so i mean imagine if you tried to tell you tube to advertise on you tube were going to be held liable for whats said on you tube videos on the video its insane to think that a short term weve seen a certain level of responsibility from certain organizations just around suspending the Comment Section when they see that its gone too far into the weeds or when its become too racist or too then a big or too you know anti muslim weve seen those types of things before but thats organizations taking the lead and saying hey you know this were in a direction that nobody really needs to see but again its hard to mandate what people are going to say outside people on your platform and im going to really tired from the both the left and the right basically attacking each others messages online and trying to censor each others messages but look theres a ton of stuff i dont want to read and i dont want to see you know i find deplorable and despicable but they still have a right to say you know and i have a right to react to it i dont want to see it censored exactly but i would feel differently if the publication endorsed the comment right its very different if you have an article that is run that is blatantly racist and one that uses a lot of the undertones that we do see in some of these comments but again these are individuals who are making their voices heard yes a lot of them are probably in their basement typing things that are should never be uttered out loud people get a lot of a lot of courage when they are in the Comment Section they wouldnt have outside of that but i just dont feel like there should be liability on any society is going to even. They do produce an article that is blatantly racist society will shun them for a society will pay them back for it remember free speech you know whether you agree that free speech is actually there to protect unpopular speech popular speech doesnt need protection everyone loves it really at the heart of this though is whether or not a big argument with all of this is whether or not n. B. C. The reporter who wrote this piece for n. B. C. You know was basically you know showed google what theres other companies the dead men put out this tweet saying like thanks to you know fake news and see see the hate that their hard work and their collaboration collaboration being this keyword was like oh did n. B. C. Collaborate with those groups to get the bedroom list and 0 hedge you know attack by google ads thats where the big kind of controversy with all this sits and to me i look at it now im kind of like its a stupid tweet because you can read any and everything and collaborate. And because she kind of walked into something that was already set in motion the federalist and a lot of organizations on the right feel as though they are their speech is being taken off of certain platforms specifically those that they see as more left leaning or having more left leaning support and this kind of help to feed that monster so i think that theyre blowing the tweet out of proportion granted she shouldnt if that in any way. While the United States continues to reopen the threat and the danger of covert 19 has not by any means gone away with new spikes in states like arizona and florida long known as the destinations for americans who are tired and elderly it appears that this virus is still at the throat of the most vulnerable of our population are to americans john who is in florida with the latest on kobe 1000. 00 the tax on americas thing you said isnt. Covered 19 tintin used to plague Nursing Homes and assisted living facilities throughout the United States as more states continue to reopen the wall street journal reports that as Nursing Homes and other senior care facilities have started allowing more visits the death toll at these facilities has surpassed 50000 accounting for. 43 percent of coban 1000 deaths in the United States this is Health Care Advocates raise more concerns about Nursing Homes not being adequately inspected nationwide to see if theyre following proper procedures to prevent the spread of the virus a report by the center of medicare advocacy found that 5724 surveys cited Infection Control deficiencies in 163 nursing facilities in 30 states and only a little more than half of the Nursing Homes in the u. S. Had received inspections florida texas california and ohio had some of the worst infection rates act Nursing Homes in the country parent florida there are reports of new clusters of corona virus infections at Nursing Homes with recent inspections turning up alarming conditions at some of these facilities as the state continues to reopen. The miami herald reports about one facility in the florida keys thats become a cluster for corona virus cases and quote received a 2nd critical report in as many months detailing deficiencies that include understaffing and adequate care and isolation for kovan 1000 patients and unsanitary conditions that could promote the spread of the disease thats only one example but there are plenty more nationwide seam of her mother head of the centers for Medicare Medicaid services or c. M. S. Said facilities that followed federal Infection Control guidelines were largely able to contain and control the virus the c. M. S. Reports that facilities with a one star quality rating were more likely to have large numbers of covert 1000 cases than facilities with a 5 star rating adding that c. M. S. Will take an foresman against Nursing Homes that have not reported data into the c. D. C. The centers for Disease Control and prevention burma said if states do not complete the required facility checks by july 31st they may risk losing federal Recovery Funding there also still remains contention about whether many Nursing Homes and assisted living facilities are receiving enough covert 1000 testing kits and sufficient protective gear as that blame game continues the bottom line is peoples lives still remain at risk and many of these facilities as the number of coronavirus cases continues to climb in some of the poorest rated states for nursing home care in the United States for our t. John hardy. I mean if covert is done anything that has exposed how lacking we are in so many areas of infrastructure and care for both the poor and the elderly in this country no i i fully agree and i think that when were talking about the nursing home specifically whats pressure. Thing is that we knew early on that the most vulnerable population was going to be our elderly are Senior Citizens and there should have been protocols immediately for Nursing Homes and we know that a lot of them werent meeting standards long before coping 90 yes but my question remains what type of people were they getting that they have enough that they have the regular things that we know that youre supposed to happen or the hand washing antibacterial mask or those who are interacting with the with the Senior Living facility themselves as well as i know that they cut a lot of the visitation like you they can not have any visitors at all but my question is what are they doing to regulate the people that work there exactly the i mean thats a great question and you know when you mention like p. P. M. You know when you see reports of like you know dr coming out saying like oh you know they held back on telling people to use face masks early on because they knew their supplies were so low you know i mean he said quote we were concerned that it was at a time when personal protective equipment including the n 95 mass and the surgical mask were in very short supply i get like hey you dont want everyone going out and having everything disappear like toilet paper did early on in this but inform people i shouldnt have to read about this after the back tell people hey we dont have enough masks we will admit to you know same thing with Nursing Homes like how do you not follow up on that and check on these to make sure procedures are being followed for our most elderly and the people that we that we say we care about when you know that this is going to be nearly ground 0 for any infections it just absolutely breaks my heart on every level. All right as we go to break remember that you can also start watching the hawks on them into the brand new portable t. V. App available on all platforms yes it is available on all platforms you can find it everywhere you have no excuse not to pick it up coming up we will discuss the new charges that have been brought against the 2 Police Officers possible for the murder of ray sharp brooks as well and we will take a deeper look at the idea of atlanta being a mecca for black america and stay tuned to watch. Nuclear helpline so become a battleground in the u. S. In vermont people are demanding the shutdown of a local plant from my yankee is right now my focus because its a very dangerous oh no claire power plant the owner is attempting to run the reactor beyond its operational limit this case just sort of puts a magnifying glass on wheres the power in this country wheres it going is it moving more towards corporate interests or is it more in the idea of a traditional participatory democracy as are powerline with the people this case demonstrates that struggle in the very real ways our struggle on auti. You cannot be both with yet you want. America pretty much just doesnt do what it says it does the Food Companies dont make food the Car Companies dont make cars the computers dont make computers they dont do what they say theyre doing all theyre doing is theyre gaming the system by getting a free pass from the computer part of the. You know whipping not up to the sheer paydays for the executives. Atlanta georgia is known for being the hotbed of Civil Rights Advocacy and the fight for justice. Hot lanta is black hollywood boasting top entertainers and rap in r. And b. Its also home to famed Film Producer tyler perrys 300 acre studio but for all the talk of success elana has seen over the past years what doesnt get reported merely as much is that it lana has the worst inequality in the United States despite being home to several fortune 500. 00 companies while the national and interNational Spotlight on the death of george floyd sparked a movement were still seeing cop abuse blacks as if america isnt in crisis mode in atlanta the recent death of ray sharp brooks at the hands of a Police Officer led to heightened protests the burning of a windies and calls for immediate reforms the civil unrest in atlanta is brought on by a few things and its brought to the forefront black folks who feel they havent been heard who often are at odds with the popularized image of the city and are ready for their stories to finally come to light theyre calling out Political Leadership the police and the wealthy elite who paint image of the city thousands of black at lehman simply dont see with mayor kesha lance bottoms under consideration as a running mate for democratic president ial nominee joe biden all eyes are on her leadership in this moment atlantas black hollywood is in the National Spotlight and its steps during this time of protests and calls for systemic change could be a road map for the nation joining us now is political director for the a. C. L. U. Of georgia chris bruce and daniel bizzaro with the peoples response atlanta. Guys charges were announced just a few hours ago for the officers involved in re charbroil to death what are your immediate reactions. Start up and i said no. Go ahead go ahead well start with you chris. Well thank you thank you for having me on the show. Ill start off by saying we need to look at a whole hearted you of whats happening with this case so we know that there are charges against the Police Officers and now one Police Officer is allegedly going to be a state witness against the other Police Officer that actually did the shooting the thing that i really want to point out is what exactly is justice in this situation because what i dont want to happen is for this to happen again next year or next month so having police be in charge with the murder is a step forward but getting ultimately to changing the police so they never encounter this type of situation again is really where the city of atlanta needs to be and the rest of the nation of the United States. Daniel i want to ask you you know allana seems to be battling an image issue right now or you know some citizens feel that whats being projected to america isnt exactly whats felt on the ground i know youre a Good Organization has been there on the ground with covert 19 trying to help people out and keep them you know safe from this pandemic this schism is now being amplified by the protests in the wake of race car brookss death as if we should mentioned earlier what steps is atlanta taking to remedy or course correct not only the Excessive Force and policing if any you know in terms of stuff fixing it and respond to calls from all the atlantans will build essentially left out of whats being called the black mecca in the middle of the country. To be honest i dont really think that it has been making any moves to reconcile what has been happening. I think it was right in to say like what is just kind of look like in this moment i mean. Were saying arresting a Police Officer but how does that change the history of systemic racism that is happening in this country the system the criminal Justice System is retribution its not really tackling. This is stomach issues that are deeply ingrained in this country. And on top of that we have Public Officials who are constantly coming up with. Giving empty promises right for example with keesha lance bottoms saying that they were going to close down a City Detention Center and now were seeing that shes trying to push 18000000 into a city thats had decided to keep it open wont really were supposed to change it into health and wellness center. Additionally talking about how in her campaign she wanted to stop sending all Police Officers over to israel to get training and there are 26000 campaign and then in 2800 send over if you do officers over there so were seeing that Public Health or the Public Officials are going back on their word and then are really trying to remedy anything. And theres been several Media Outlets that are pointing to the differences in the george blake case and the rush hour bookcase they seem to largely fall on brooks used to take his or in the telcel of Police Officers chris what role do you think this is going to play in finding justice for brooks. I think that there are several Media Outlets that are stirring up controversy which is something that happens with Media Outlets all the time but when it comes down to what actually happened between rush hour burks and george floyd they were killed 2 black men were killed by staying say Police Officers and thats exactly what really needs to be pointed you know why do we always have a history of Police Officers. Targeting hunting and killing black men so finding justice again doesnt go along with well and eye for eye type of situation a life for life such a situation justice would be this not happening again and you can point to the rich are bricks situation and easily find another way of dealing with this dealing with the differences between Law Enforcement and Public SafetyLaw Enforcement says you may allegedly have a d. I. Y. On your hands because he was behind the veil and allegedly under the influence you could be arrested or charged with a dui and then within that you see the catapults action whilst there was an argument there was a fight that ensued and there was a shooting where a black man was killed and now 2 officers are charged and their lives are going to be ruined to compared to Public Safety where you can go ahead and say oh if this young gentleman was you need paraded at the time allegedly calling it over calling a live calling somebody to say come pick him up issue a citation we can to deal with this issue later on but you have a black man that goes home to his family to his daughters who was having a birthday and 2 Police Officers who can also go back on the street so theres differences between the 2 but when it really comes down to it we need to figure out the similarities of the problems that happen systemically in our policing system. Daniel and i want to ask you too you know youre mentioned youre there on the ground and youre fighting this sort of ground level in trying to help people what is something that these these cities and atlanta and other cities what it is like theres a lot of things they can do to fix but what in your view do should be the 1st thing fix right out the gate that could actually bring somebody quality and bring some justice to a lot of the citizens in these cities. The found in abolish the police that is frightening for most we have seen that the Police Officers that have been multiple reforms that have been trying to be instilled and Police Departments and weve seen that none of those trainings have are effective i believe the officer who killed a sharp rocks had a training diversity training a couple months ago and yet the result was that a unarmed black man was killed. And i think a lot of cities across the nation are calling for a defunding of the police and abolition of that just to police the president doesnt accomplish as a whole because the system is a racist system that criminalizes broken bodies and ultimately smartest and since im such a sentence so their media think that we can do as a country and just cities across the nation is to immediately define the police and used those funds and direct them to Public Services thank you for bringing up the prison industrial system its a good good point to move. Because this ones for you and dan you can chime in as well but qualified immunity its a big buzz word going around right now we definitely want to touch on this qualified immunity prevents police from being charged and prosecuted in many cases actually in 99 percent of cases where there is a murder involved where is it lana in the state of georgia on providing penalty for officers who use Excessive Force and ensuring they do face charges when these murders occur. Well weve seen whats happening with which are books of the officers that have been happening District Attorney paul howard has brought a warrant out for their arrest and has committed to ensuring that they were. Be indicted on this qualified immunity is something that has always played that you point out of the american criminal system when it comes to holding Police Officers accountable so the city of atlanta on the state of georgia they have a long way to go when it comes to holding Police Officers accountable and Police Officers are pushing back honestly and they need to take account ability to what the problems that are happening within themselves Police Officers can police themselves as well and saying the standards that we have to stand is that we should be held to should be also held in the law in solidified by statute but you need to hear that from Police Officers too so until we get state legislation until the city of atlanta poses imports together some policies then we will have a long way to go. On this. So i want to say what did justice look like for Catherine Johnson and what it does is look like for Alexa ChristianNicholas ThompsonJim Martin Robinson came rogers oscar kane jimmy actions and griffin all these people were murdered at the hands of police here in atlanta and what it just is look like for them i think the only way that we can move past qualified immunity and actually seek justice for everyone is so again like i said define the police and abolish the Prison Industrial Complex as the only way forward it seems to be that all the signs are definitely going to point in that direction because you know weve got a lot of promises over the years over and over and over i think were sick of promises and we need to see action i want to thank you both for the work that youre doing out there to find justice and find out equality thank you both for joining us chris brooks there on your bizarre pleasure very much having you both on today and keep up the great work. Thank you so much thank you go on. Wild conversations and a lot of good answers and i think that you know that resonating back there around defunding the police the more we see the death toll increase the more were going to hear those calls. Even louder great work by those 2 are right that is our show for today remember everyone in this world we are not told that were loved enough so i tell you all i love you i am i roll vinter and im a music rock keep on watching all those hawks out there and have a great day and night everybody. So what weve got to do is identify the threats that we have its crazy people in from day shouldnt let it be an arms race in this on off and spearing Dramatic Development only personally im going to resist i dont see how that strategy will be successful very critical time time to sit down and talk.
