Stretch governments then across the globe mutual aid is taking place all around the world helping those in need were going to discuss it all that and more all right its time to. I. Had 1000. 00 continues to grip the world and the nation the total now topping more than 1600000. 00 cases with over 101000 deaths and 372000 recovered cases the u. S. Still leading the way here with more than 486000 confirmed cases and about 18000 deaths 27000 have recovered and as the numbers of infections continue to surge prisons and jails across the country have become new hot beds for the virus while some are looking to free up space others are seeing protests over a lack. Action rachel bludgeons has more. The United States is known for having the largest prison population in the world and hundreds of thousands of inmates are now calling for help as both prisoners and guards test positive for the coronavirus dozens of inmates took part in a demonstration at the monroe correctional complex in Washington State after 6 prisoners and 5 Staff Members were diagnosed with the virus while officials confirm that officers used pepper spray and rubber bullets to try to control the protesters they claim no one was harmed Nonprofit Law Firm filed the motion calling for the state Supreme Court to issue an order that would mandate test for all prisoners and push for the release of inmates with Underlying Health conditions now that are in response to the outcry state officials said they have separated the inmates who tested positive and they are looking into Early Release for nonviolent drug offenders who are nearing the end of their sentences a similar demonstration was held at the Lansing Correctional Facility in kansas only this one was more violent around 20 inmates took part in an hours long riot thursday night officials said they destroyed property including breaking windows and setting small fires so far 12 inmates and 14 Staff Members of the gel have tested positive for coated 19 concerns over the rampant spread of the corona virus are being felt that prisons across the country with the close quarters between inmates and staff leaving many to worry that it is impossible to escape an infection like in vermont where after one prisoner tested positive the northwest state correctional facility conducted 328. 00 tests on all available inmates and staff so far at least 28 in maids and 5 Staff Members tested positive reports noted that most inmates were asymptomatic and in chicago at least 2 inmates of the Cook County Jail have died from complications related to the corona virus right now 276. 00 prisoners have tested positive for the virus out of the cillit. Known as one of the largest single site prisons in the country the crisis has drawn the attention of attorney general william barr who issued a memo calling on the federal prisons in danbury connecticut oakland louisiana and out in ohio to release inmates classified as vulnerable and in an effort to lessen the impact of the coronavirus his directive comes after 7 inmates died in oakdale and so far more than 500. 00 inmates from the facilities have been moved to home confinement meanwhile inmates at the Fort Bend County jail in texas are now devoting their time to sewing mass to protect themselves and the essential Staff Members with supplies that deal purchases from local businesses the visibility currently has 0 confirmed cases and they say their goal is to keep it that way now it still remains to be seen just how much of an impact 19 will have on prisons across the country but many are hoping it will push facilities to release nonviolent offenders and drastically reduce the overall prison population before it is too late reporting in the news or blevins archie. Today new york continues to bear the brunt of this virus as it remains the epicenter of the outbreak the state now accounting for more than 93000 cases but while the state remains on lockdown it looks like the curve may finally be leveling off Trinity Chavez picks up the story at a new york. Today new york city the crossroads of the world has more confirmed cases of covert 19 than any other city on earth hospitals still hitting capacity and medical staff pushed to their brink we are going to work and while the u. Rooms its overcrowded over 1000 patients are going to have to wait for a long time just to get upstairs to a bed with if im going to share a room or going to hallways with other covert action patients 1st responders also on the front lines the f. D. A. And why reporting that nearly 400. 00 e. M. s workers including firefighters tested positive for the corona virus were at the point were you have to assume everyone is a covert positive and roughly 3000 of the departments 15000 were out sick weve dealt with large scale events before we havent dealt with a sustained serious call volume now going on its 3rd with no end in sight perhaps some hope the governor now saying the curve is slowing so or rural new york is flattening the curve and we have to flatten the curve. Because when they showed us the projection models of what the statisticians projected the curve would do. We have no capacity to meet those projections while the curve may be leveling off the city is still dealing with the mounting coronavirus death toll the virus now claiming more than 7800. 00 lives 777 of them who just died on thursday the driver of this huge uptick in deaths at home is covered 1000 and some people are dying directly of it and some people dying indirectly of it but it is the tragic x. Factor here the National Guard now using rental vans to pick up hundreds of dead bodies from new york city homes more exposed in the city dwindling the city now using an island off the bronx waters called heart island as a temporary burial site an aerial view shows hired contractors wearing protective gear digging graves and lining up dozens of caskets in those deep trenches under a new policy the medical Examiners Office will keep bodies in storage for 14 days before theyre buried in hart islands potters field which is a burial site for people whose families cant afford a funeral or who go unclaimed by relatives the number burials increasing from about 25 a week to now 24 a day meantime growing concerns for the state of new jersey officials warning that it could be the next hot spot the state accounting for more than 54000 confirmed cases and more than 1500 deaths state officials urging residents to stay home because just like new york social distancing is working to stop the spread reporting in new york Trinity Chavez r. T. 243000. 00 that was the price tag on alstead Navy Secretary thomas modeling his trip to guam last weekend a visit sailors aboard the u. S. S. Theodore roosevelt and today a pentagon official. Our defending that cost saying it was my duty to visit the sailors when he boarded a gulfstream 550. 00 business jet for his 35 hour round trip flight meanwhile defense secretary marc is considering reinstating the carriers captain who was fired for sounding the alarm on the by restricting ship. And g 20 Energy Ministers are prepared to back the deal to slash Oil Production this after opec and russia finally agreed to boost oil prices by cutting as much as 10000000 barrels a day in production now mexico initially blocked that deal but its president today said he agreed with President Trump that the u. S. Will compensate what mexico cannot add to the proposed cuts now trump also spoke today with russian president Vladimir Putin about the latest efforts to maintain stability in Global Energy markets. And the Australian Parliament have called on british officials and the judge to release julian a songe due to the rapid spread of coronavirus among the prison population and workers at belmarsh prison where songe is being held 23 and a half hours a day in solitary confinement last night journalist Vaughan Smith said a songe contacted him and shared some more insight into whats really happening at belmarsh thats contradictory to what little the tight lipped prison officials are saying former u. K. M. P. And friend of julian a songe George Galloway joined me a little bit earlier to discuss his case. Theres no argument against this. Is not even on the ball for discussion never mind agreement he could go on he could go to a moment to do address. To call on a new ownership of 3 shifts will still cost them much less than its costing them to keep the marsh the. Little is no logical argument against. Does he told our friend Vaughan Smith from the Frontline Club one of britains eminent journalists although he himself does not yet how of coronavirus hes surrounded by people who do exercises for 30 minutes just a day thats all the time that is of his so you surrounded by hundreds of other prisoners many of whom undoubtedly have got this virus so it comes back to the point that ive been making julian our son john unconvicted mom cannot be released to home detention when hardened convicted criminals are this is a level of discrimination nonbiased that can only lead you in their luck to bleed to conclude that they want julia to get a coronavirus 19 they want julian to die 1 they want a say on good friday to wash their hands of this trouble some priest its a very very ugly story of manila and george this is just incredible when you hear the the level and the numbers of people that theyre considering letting out and julian as you said and we should underscore he is not convicted yet of anything and he wont even be allowed to be on an ankle monitor at a at a private location outside of belmarsh thats unbelievable and julian is contradicting what belmarsh officials are saying about the spread of coronavirus he believes there are much more deaths within the inmate population than the one official count possibly 2 that people are entertaining and that the virus was quote ripping through the prison is what julian said why are the u. K. Department of justice not investigating these claims. Well not for the 1st time julian is telling the truth and the officials are low. Thats in a way the whole point of Julian Assange as it happens i have very close contact with the prison officers a source. Of the prison stuff and i can tell you the coronavirus is ripping through belmarsh prison and many other prisons too and they are asked concerned about as we who are concerned about the prisoner Julian Assange are because its their members that are going down like flies 150 of their members in belmarsh prison are in self isolation and thats the stuff what about the prisoners it is incredible theres no people theres no mosques theres no gloves theres no separation portable in a jail its its its mass mob are waiting to happen and george lastly critics of the situation are now comparing the u. K. Justice system to that of iran now citing that the newly released mrs nasa needs a garri ratcliffe because of kobe 1000 she is now out having been a member of parliament for so many years how do you take that comparison i imagine this is supposed to be a slight. Is deeply humiliating its a sad day when the prisons in iran are being emptied door of prisoners including someone they claim is a british spy nozinan rockliffe and shes now been released on humanitarian grounds for fear of for contracting corona virus about the british will not release julian a sons their political prisoner the Australian Parliament spoke with a great cottage on cloudy and clatter of in the last 24 hours. Right fit tight dont go anywhere well be right back. So much but then we really dont need thats what this whole lockdown is teaching so many millions of people but most of their lives are all wasted on stuff thats unnecessary costly redundant and doesnt promote social good at all. Its. How. When i dont think this is a no sunk incident i dont know what else but might of the us i mean dont. You love the. Moment between dont drink this time ill meet. Cheri down some some emotion some. Thats. Very uncertain. Heart. Broke up and the baby had a fever of 38. 30 were hoping that. That it will all be ok. All right it wasnt that long ago that the us emerged as the undisputed sole superpower the soviet union had just fallen germany just reunited and china was undergoing a Seismic Shift that in about 30 years brought them to the position. The worlds 2nd economic powerhouse but corona virus seems to have up ended that reality laying bare some of the americas frailest components that were long hidden behind tanks and tomahawk missiles were seeing mass graves in new york and stories of how a coded test in philly gets sent to l. A. For processing taking days for those results is this the way a world superpower treats its citizens here to discuss our panel of investigative journalist ben swan and cohost of watching the hawks tyrrel ventura so guys lets imagine an america after the coded crisis a crisis that has shown everyone our soft underbelly what are some of the things the u. S. Might need to reconsider in terms of say Foreign Policy ben. Well i think theres a lot of things to reconsider and certainly on the domestic front i think theres a lot of questions but i do the Foreign Policy one 1st in terms of Foreign Policy i think one of the things that really demonstrates is that weve put an awful lot of our fortune and treasure into wars that yield nothing into creating in the misa around the world and creating terrorism around the world in our war on terror the only thing with that we have actually done through the war on terror is create more war and more terror but what we have failed to do is recognize the importance of having proper systems in place medical equipment in place right here at home we have a weak infrastructure here at home to take care of these kinds of problems and yet were spending still massive amounts of money were talking about trillions of dollars on fighting wars that again yielded absolutely nothing yeah and tyler we have seen how the government have failed the people time and time again we saw it with Hurricane Katrina and i think were seeing it again now with coronavirus but to fill those gaps in communities have actually sprung up and come together can you pick it up from there what are you saying well you know i mean communities are coming together in ways the i think the to make up for the failure of the federal government i mean at the end of the day you know people around the. Starting to look at themselves and really serious questions of is the government is this system of government whos in charge worth keeping when it cannot protect its citizens from a pandemic or a Natural Disaster because thats the most d i mean thats one of the Main Responsibilities of a government is that yes they couldnt see this particular virus coming but at the end of the day they knew that Something Like this would come and they were not prepared for why because they chose to spend all of their money on pointless missiles and point was about all ships and other things that are a waste of our infrastructure our infrastructure our Health Infrastructure and our transportation infrastructure our miserable failures we are not a superpower this disease this pandemic has showed the world that we are not the superpower reaper tended to be were just a superpower and how much money we could spend on weapons of war and then the president has boasted about americas world class medical system here and light of the coronavirus though is that. Well look i think theres some severe problems but i think one of the problems and i got to say this is in the way that we have listened to certain groups about the danger of this virus when just about every single numeric prediction that has been made has been wrong and so one of the things that i worry about you know we talk about superpowers china is certainly a superpower but they are a top down communist government that controls its people were supposed to be a democratic republic but we are not acting at all like a democratic republic at this point in fact whom weve seen the kinds of orders that are coming from governors and from mayors and even from the administration itself orders coming down to people about behavior and what they can and cannot do were not acting that at all like a democratic republic and i think certainly on the health care front you know we talk about ventilators the way say well were going to need 30000 or 50000 ventilators and then cities like new york city need fewer than 6000 so i think just the numbers are wrong and were getting Bad Information and then were were just spreading this information almost like a game of telephone and. Its coming from a top down system and theres very little accountability in our system to correct things when they go wrong yet in time what about that i mean theres been talk about you know speaking of Civil Liberties there are talks about you know creating this coronavirus federal list of whos infected its kind of like these monitoring watch lists right that we do see in other governments like in china where they are watching us well we already know theyre watching but what do you think of that well you have to have a balance between being able to handle and contain the virus and at the same time keep peoples freedom sadly in a situation like this you know theres got to be a little given theres got to be a little take the key is is what happens after the virus is contained what happens next do they keep those things in place or do they roll them back time and again in the u. S. Like we saw after 911. 00 you passed things like the patriot act that stripped us of our rights and then after the war on terror is quote unquote done even know that you picked the war on terror which could never technically be done but after the crisis is over thats when you need to pressure the government thats when you need leaders to step up and say ok these these elements we put in place to protect us during this time of emergency now need to be rolled back the problem is we dont have leaders and we dont have a system of government that allows that kind of rollback and that kind of self reflection after the crisis in emergency has passed and i bet you and i have been talking about this all week we obviously saw Congress Take swift action on the stimulus package to aid regular people out of the billions and billions that they carved out a little bit for some for us for joe schmoe but that doesnt amount to the amount of dollars that this country has spent on making war oh not even close the amount of money thats been spent on war it doesnt even come close to what were spending right now but whats really interesting too is it all comes down in my mind to a for profit system too many things are being set up for profit and people who are on the inside make too much profit out of these situations and i think what i was saying is absolutely correct. When you talk about for instance that the situation with this health care patriot act which theyre trying to push through right now jared cushion there is behind well theres a lot of private companies that are about to make billions of dollars off of this system and so because we we incentivize it with profit everyone is seeming to profit right now off of these situations people like bill gates are profiting off of where we are right now while there are tens of millions of americans right now unemployed and the question remains for them do they ever get those jobs back time and give you the last word on that i think i agree i agree with ben im in the real problem is that we are quick to bail out the fat cats on wall street we are quick to bail out those that dont need bailing out those that if its a free market as they say it is should be allowed to go the way of the dinosaur but instead we bail them out and leave nothing left for the common citizen and i think thats where youre going to see a Major Political change in the future because remember after all of these pandemics throughout history youve seen drastic changes politically in the countries that dealt with them and i think were going to see that around the corner maybe not this election but coming up very very soon all right gentlemen great analysis from both Ventura Ben Swan thank you so much for weighing in. Middle of its. Ok lets head over to regina hamm of the sports h. Q. As regina 1947 was a 5 big year for baseball in this country and it paved the way for a lot of players that would be playing today if you know the season was going exactly and baseball was the 1st areas of American Society to integrate back in the 20th century so for a friday edition of this day in sports history its time to take a look at one player who became synonymous with americas pastime and before he said Jackie Robinson became the 1st africanamerican baseball player since the sports 2nd segregation 18 i decided to m. L. Be robinson was called of sixtys for the start of the season by then a brooklyn dodgers general Manager Branch Rickey jr 5 days later he became the 1st black baseball player to take the field in the big leagues at the end of his rookie season with the dodgers hed become National League rookie of the year with 12 homers a legal leading 29 steals at a 2. 97 batting average but you know moving forward a couple of decades the National HockeyLeague Players association ended its strike against n. H. L. Owners strike last to 10 days of a settled with players receiving an increase in playoff bonuses control over their lives the licensing of their likeness and changes to the free agent system as a result the season was also expanded to 84 games and saw a fundamental change in the relationship between the league and its players and owners and today liverpool and senegal star sa they all manet to 20 years old the winger for the premier league club ranks the senegal 5th all time top goal scoring 8th all time for appearances he also represents his country the 2012 london summer games and the 20000 feet a world cup where senegal made its 2nd ever appearance at the event is pretty awesome and speaking of soccer most soccer goals that make headlines are dramatic the header from south anywhere humid it or a stunning chip shot from midfield by christianity or nada or lionel messi or cruel as are equally as exciting so lets take a look at some of the best that Major League Soccer has to offer me. Steve.
