Month after the controversial and brutal slaying of 9 dual u. S. Mexican citizens including 6 children who are part of a fundamentalist Mormon Community living in northern mexico by Drug Cartel Members trump well he did what trump does he took to twitter. Saying this time this is the time for mexico with the help of the United States to wage war on the drug cartels and wipe them off the face of the earth we merely await a call from your great new president and despite that call never coming that didnt stop the u. S. President from declaring and bill oreillys yes that bill oreillys Radio Program that the cartels well they will be designated i have been working on that for the last 90 days you know designation is not that easy you have to go through a process and we are well into that process. And if this process proceeds my friends what does that mean well when a group is designated a terrorist organization by the United States it becomes illegal for anyone in the u. S. To knowingly offer support to that group the groups are banned from entering the United States and members will be deported if they are already here Financial Institutions yes Financial Institutions who have funds connected to the group are required to block that money and alert the u. S. Treasury department you know if you listen closely right now you can practically hear the sweat forming on the upper lips of h. S. B. C. Bank executives but all joking aside the real question is can our basic human rights and due process survive when the war on drugs meets the war on terror with all of us stuck in the between lets find out as we start watching the hawks. Its. Like you know that i got. This. Welcome of on the watching the hawks i am a robot to. And joining us today to discuss the trumpet for this fresh push to designate mexican drug cartels as terrorist organizations is the host the world according to jesse former minnesota governor Jesse Ventura thank you as always for coming on dad. Youre welcome tyrrel i appreciate it well i want to say youve spoken out against the violations and illegal activities perpetrated under both the war on terror and the war on drugs i want to ask you what are the dangers of now putting both these u. S. Wars essentially under the same umbrella you call drug cartels terrorist groups. Well the problem is this 1st and foremost they are separate entities. Drug selling is different than terrorism essentially and the problem with the war on drugs is a spent a miserable failure from the start i mean if you look back through history and yes we really do need to look at history occasionally because the old cliche is true if you dont look at history youre destined to live it again well lets go back to when they outlawed alcohol in the United States who took over of course the organized crime al capone and all that stuff went on murder in the streets all for the sake of alcohol and finally they realized that people are going to do drugs they are much better off being regulated and controlled than they are put underground because if you declare them illegal their use is not going to go down its merely going to be done now by criminals and along with criminals come violence so learning from the prohibition of alcohol which we didnt do we then later declare the war on drugs including marijuana and all this listed as a number one substance like heroin and the rest is history we got prisons full of people for nonviolent drug offenses for using drugs in other words the government is telling you we will tell you what you can or cannot consume or put in your body while vattel alone to me is essentially wrong now if you commit a crime and youre on drugs prosecute you for committing the crime or not for the use of the drugs and the point is when they combine knol the war on drugs with the war on terror youre going to get us military with Carte Blanche running wild all over the place and guess whos going to suffer the most casualties like in all wars. Villianous will and what right do we have to constantly be sending our military into other sovereign nation whose weve done it in syria syria has never asked us to come in there what happened to the constitution having declare war on terrorism and on drugs which requires congress to vote for each and every war in each and every sovereign nation its not Carte Blanche all over the United States quote empire you know its a great point that you bring up about the differences between the war on drugs in the war on terror because we have to remember the war on terror supposedly is about a terrorist is trying to change a government or a political theyre doing this for political reasons drug cartels are just there to make money they dont have political reasons behind what they do theyre just there to make money its interesting on monday mexican president and the rest of my well Lopez Obrador told the media quote in response to what trump said our problems will be solved by mexicans we dont want any interference from any foreign country just as should the cartel problem be left for the mexican people to solve and what is the best way for United States i think you said it earlier to combat the power of drug cartels. Well 1st and foremost absolutely if the Mexican Government wants us to come in they will come to us and ask us it shouldnt be done by pressure from us they should have to ask us and clearly they dont want to do that there are a sovereign nation they will handle their own problems and i might add heres something for all the gun enthusiasts out there they never bring up the fact that mexico practices some of the most strict gun laws in the world you cant get caught theres big signs right at the border guns or ammunition youre going straight to mexican prison and yet 18220000 people down there are killed every year. Or why because its again its the old cliche when the good guys dont have guns the bad guys will and thats what goes on down in mexico now they have to solve that problem as well as they have to solve their own cartel problem is we have enough problems why are we looking in our own backyard with terrorism and White Supremacy over White Supremacy going on here lets take care of our own backyard before we start worrying about going out in other peoples backyard well its interesting when you mention our own backyard because what i fear when i hear oh were going to label drug cartels as terrorist organizations that means anybody who is remotely connected to that organization can then be treated as a terrorist you know if youre aiding and abetting or whatever and lets say you know lets say a local street gang here in the u. S. Trying to make ends meet because they have no Economic Opportunities other than to sell drugs in the neighborhood they grew up in what happens to those kids lets say in chicago los angeles who do a deal for drugs and then suddenly are now under u. S. Anti terrorism surveillance and what were going to drone bomb our own citizens because we can label them terrorism and terrorists at this point its absolutely ridiculous. Well if youre very right tyrrell youre not out of the limit on that i couldnt foresee us killing our own citizens with drones its not out of the question because of this weve already chosen to ignore our constitution and bill of rights so often we are a country now i think that has no real legal standing because theres no document that takes priority we just laugh at the constitution and bill of rights and find loopholes to go around it in all sorts of different conditions you know its interesting to see how both the left and the right politicians actually are supporting this idea of labeling the cartels as terrorist organizations indiana mayor pete booted judge actually told reporters i believe that should be on the table because theyre spreading terror jesse is this another example of the 2 party system always in lockstep when it comes to u. S. Foreign policy. Yeah well to me not even in lockstep with us Foreign Policy its lockstep with the military industrial war policy lets get things straight right away my good friend Dennis Kucinich said it right dennis told me i was a 3rd string quarterback in ohio but guess what i could tell the difference between off and soon defense we have a government building called the department of defense truly it should be called the department of off ends because we dont fight defensive wars anymore we fight off and civil wars we want to attack 1st so we dont get attacked later and you know thats kind of like going out and arresting people for crimes they havent yet committed thats what i mean its like when you look at the terrible history of both these wars the war on terror and the war on drugs i mean how much you said earlier how many civilians have died how many wedding parties have been accidently drone bombed how many people were sent to Guantanamo Bay who didnt commit a single crime and a lot of them are still sitting down there you know that the idea that were suddenly going to turn fighting the war on drugs into a terroristic threat to me is ludicrous and i think its setting a very dangerous precedent as we go forward in the future is at the. Wall what about our courts if you look at terrorists they dont get trials they get stuck in jail and guantanamo or these other Holding Tanks throughout the world they never see the light of day and apparently vats what theyre going to do now with the drug dealers theyre blaming the drug dealers for United States people and their drug usage you know if there wasnt a demand there wouldnt be a supply its that simple donald trump bought i understand that its a basic capitalism basic capitalism and im certain donald knows a thing or 2 about drugs over the years im just kidding donald anyway i got to say jessica. There was a whole as were coming on always a great pleasure having you. Thank you tyrrell all right everybody as we go to break caulk watchers dont forget to let us know what you think of the topics weve covered on our social media be sure to check out watching the hawks the podcast which is now available on spotify apple music and everywhere you listen to your favorite or even not so favorite pod coming up r. T. America correspondent karen progs that brings us a look at china in the United States not to battle over Rare Earth Materials and then the iraq war but the former state Department Official about the hope joins us to discuss the pardoning of u. S. Workers little state to the watching the whole its. You know one of the things we talk about on the show how if you read the Financial Press about the latest scandal its just a new name for a recurring scandal like theres only 3 or 4 ways you can rip people off as it changes is the name they call to rip people off. Young elephants have come to us off to. Myspace me brutal pledging incidents because said leave the baby elephants off and do see their mother as. Killed but also be caught up unfortunate. I do believe the elephant smiled i see its a nice little ones they all say show next person changes in. The us house. Representatives has wrapped up its 1st round of impeachment hearings against President Trump but its not done with trying to oust him with new impeachment proceedings ahead is impeachment of viable strategy against the president. So what weve got to do is identify the threats that we have its crazy one from day shouldnt let it be an arms race is on scaring Dramatic Development the only really im going to resist i dont see how that strategy will be successful very critical time time to sit down and talk. Like the discovery of the americas or the battle over the right to pillage all of africa is ivory throughout history the worlds empires of skirmished over the many bounties the good earth provides and here in the 21st century tragically those wars are still being fought only this time it isnt over i read or gold but the Rare Earth Materials the power so poems and microchips are to americas firm as the story on the new battlefront between the United States and china. If youre watching this on your smartphone you have to think china for that thats because china generates roughly 70 percent of mind Rare Earth Minerals and controls 90 percent of the market a Global Market thats 4000000000 dollars now china Just Announced its raising its annual mining quota for rare earths by 10 percent raising it to 132000. 00 tons a move thats likely to shake up global prices all this while the u. S. And china are still locked in trade talks this could put the little competitors out there into a tight cash situation especially. Since many are trying to invest in new rare earth projects where earths are 17 chemically related elements that are found in just about everything high tech but also theyre found in high powered magnets targeting systems even fighter jets 30 years ago the Chinese Government banned foreigners from mining them but back in july President Donald Trump ordered the u. S. Defense department to spur production of a wide range of rare earth magnets that are found in a lot of military hardware this because of the growing concern that china could restrict exports of these elements thats why u. S. And australian officials have set in stone a partnership to set up mines outside of china but its not just these 2 countries that are seeing all that china is doing greenland in india theyre also looking into jumping in on the deal but one analyst says that when it comes to these mining startups the world is littered with projects that have tried to get up but have failed miserably. One of the big scandals buzzing across 2 speeds this week was the firing of United States secretary of the maybe Richard Spencer by defense secretary mark us where the New York Times reporting that esper demanded the resignation of the maybes top civilian leader on sunday an abrupt move aimed at ending an extraordinary dispute between President Trump and his own Senior Military Leadership over the fate of a seal commando in a war crimes case that still commando was chief petty officer Edward Gallagher who was recently acquitted of murder of a young the wounded Islamic State prisoner gallagher was what was however found guilty of posing for pictures with the boys dead body and was demoted and the controversial decision president trouble reversed that courts decision and restored gallaghers rank the times went on report that secretary spencer had provoked mr trumps ire by threatening to resign over the case and by publicly saying he disagreed with the president s decision to intervene in favor of the commando joining me now to discuss these twists and turns in the hypocrisy surrounding this case is iraq war veteran former state Department Official matthew hoh he was also senior fellow is also a senior fellow at the center for. International policy thank you very much matthew for coming i want to have you on for quite a while now. Thanks for having me on you know i want to start by asking for your thoughts on this very interesting case of seal commander Weber Gallagher and trumps moves to pardon him of any wrong doing whatsoever in regards to the killing of this young isis prisoner. I think your use of the word hypocrisy was spot on you know whats the difference. In 1st let me make the kind of blanket statement that im not condoning what he did im not stating that you know shooting Young Children mutilate you know killing teenagers in a mutilating the corpse and posing with them is anything that i supporting what i think needs to get across is that were really you know parsing hairs when we try when we single out and try men like chief gallagher because what is the difference in the overall scheme of it in that you know when we look at these wars over the last 2 decades and we look at the anywhere from 1000000 to 4000000 people that have been killed by the United States in these countries throughout the middle east what is the difference as to whether or not they were shot by a sniper like in this case of key chief gallagher or whether they were killed. By a marine or army unit opera troll or because of our bombs dropped or because of the poisons were leaving in the ground that are causing so many stillbirths and deformities in iraqis so you know that i think is really the point thats being missed here that we are looking at this in a way that we want to make a scapegoat of one or 2 or 3. Men when the enormity of the catastrophic suffering that has occurred the last 2 decades were just letting go by every day without really saying much about it that is a great point and i think you know i really could agree i couldnt agree with you more for saying that because it is out of the big picture that is miss so often i want to ask you youre a veteran of the iraq war is there any accountability for the soldiers and commanders when it comes to taking illegal actions on the battlefield in u. S. Wars i mean do you feel a sense of accountability when youre over there fighting. There is you know i think a lot of what time my perspective and say in the case of chief gallagher or some of these other men whove recently been in the news is that they werent well liked in their units that if you are well liked well respected loved by your fellow soldiers marines sailors you dont get turned in for doing things maybe you get moved out of the unit maybe you get kind of censored internally to a degree but you dont get turned on the way these men were turned on and end up in a Court Martial with you know navy criminal best agave services coming in so that tells you about the people who are involved i think who committed these actions but there certainly is i mean the United States military. You know theres a nice those to being a professional warrior that is drummed into you from the time youre in recruit training and thats of course bolstered by all the Public Relations by the billions of dollars that the United States military department of defense spends on their Public Relations campaigns and their propaganda every year however that once youre in war that doesnt mean that no longer exists and you do things to survive youre also partaking in killing and once the key. Begins in physical and it goes back through the bible ages of killing begets killing violence begets violence once it begins it doesnt stop and so what i look at men like chief gallagher i think you know of course youre not going to condone what he did and youre not going to celebrate it he doesnt need to be pardoned but he also doesnt need to go to prison what he needs is therapy when he needs it is someone to help him get out of the place where hes at where he has no regrets for what hes done because most of us whove taken part in the violence in the wars come home and we have regret and thats what its called moral injury which many of us believe is the leading reason why veterans kill themselves is because of the guilt from what they did in war but there are some some outliers like a chief gallagher who dont have that hell too dont have that regret who dont have that sense of shame and what they need is help more than being put in prison as well as to again getting back to the main point that we have to acknowledge what we are doing on a daily basis in the middle east the massacre the suffering of millions of people we cant just focus on one or 2 and try and get a scapegoat out of that we have to understand the enormity of what we have done you know i think and i think the point that youre making to one of the things of so important in these wars is the media many are calling the medias furor over trumps recent pardons of the 3 u. S. Military soldiers who are accused of these crimes very hypocritical given that the Corporate Media and the news media in this countrys long history of ignoring or kind of softening the United States governments history of committing war crimes you labeled a bunch at the top of the show has the u. S. News media been truly diligent in holding u. S. Military leaders or the politicians that sudden goes to war accountable for the crimes that have been committed in those wars. Well no absolutely not absolutely not made with exceptions of media. Via the format work were speaking about here or other independent Media Operations in the United States theres not been that and the goal for the disparity the dissonance that exists between the ways or the way the wars are patrolling in the United States and the ways theyre actually experienced. Overseas where theyre being conducted i mean i think the best way to understand that is to get on you tube and look and see what people post from the war zones themselves the civilians post to get a true idea of whats actually occurring there certainly that is something that is you know if the war is a fairly discussed in the United States let alone the details shared of whats occurring so no absolutely not you know i mean this is been the case you know for the full 20 years it is even predates it you know i mean look at the 911 hijackers they kept saying over and over again you cant even find their hijacking videos any longer because theyve been taking off a you tube last time i checked they were at least you know they said over and over look were doing this for 3 reasons because the United States supports israel because the United States has troops in saudi arabia and because those troops in saudi arabia every day or every week are bombing and killing iraqis as well as iraqi sanctions and you know that went on disclosed undiscussed for almost a decade the United States what were doing to iraq every year before the invasion in 2003 so i mean this predates the global war on terror as its called but certainly the understanding of what occurs and what it looks like i mean look when we bomb some place when we drop our bombs when and when a drone fires a hellfire missile. When that hits a room. People in that room if theyre not immediately killed by the blast from that from the kinetic value of the of the of the explosion as well as the explosive explosion there isnt a fix it isnt a fixation that occurs as well as burning and so when you look if you go online and you tube say im looking to see what these children look like after our bombs kill them they have either been a fixie aided burned to death or ripped apart with hot iron so why does that make what chief gallagher any worse than what we do every day with our bombs thats an incredible point you made and ive always said myself but i think the 1st victims of war of the civilians caught in the crossfire of the soldiers are the rank and file soldiers being sent to fight it and ive even advocated on this show at times of saying you know we need to figure out what is that what an adult is in this country because when you send an 18 year old kid off to war but he cant get a drink until 21 to me thats a form of child abuse at the end of the day i dont care how well you prepared that person youre putting them into a situation where theyre about to be abused you know i really want to say thank you so much for coming on today matthew it is indeed a great pleasure and thank you for your voice out there we need folks like you telling the truth about what you experienced in trying to get peoples eyes opened thank you very much for your hard work. Will thank you and thank you guys where you do and on this show its much needed and a happy thanksgiving to you and all the all the crew up there most definitely happy thanksgiving to you sir.
