A group of military experts is pushing the pentagon to come clean over the number of u. S. Bases overseas they claim the current figures are being hugely understated. Very good evening to you thanks for joining us this is r. T. International. One of the most Popular Democratic president ial hopefuls has a phone to qualify for the next round of t. V. Debates why Representative Tulsi Gabbard was the most searched for candidates on google following the last 2 t. V. Showdowns this time around the d. N. C. Says that she has failed to meet the criteria required something that god has called into question. The whole process really lacks transparency. People deserve having that transparency because ultimately its the people who will decide who our democratic nominee will be and alternately who our next president commander in chief will be and when you see that lack of transparency it creates you know a lack of faith and trust in the process its Primetime Television if you want to be anybody in the Democratic Party you better make sure you get on the stage at the president ial debates so what do you need to do to make it 2 things 1st to get over 130000 unique donations to get at least 2 percent in a National Poll ah but heres where it gets tricky not every poll is the same and if the Democratic National committee doesnt like you they can reject the poll results that show things in your favor now Tulsi Gabbert has met the donations threshold hes got over 2 percent 126 different National Polls however the Democratic National Committee Says that doesnt count they have their certified list sure its important of that information its being provided but lets take a quick look at some of the polls that were rejected politico the economist reuters if these widely respected outlets and News Agencies arent credible in america then who is holing of the United States there is a club. A network of Close Associates and friends and they frown upon those polls that are either new or are not members of the club or the association so i would certainly speculate that has something to do with it it is a partisan organization the Democratic National committee so any poll say that may have a tradition of leaning republican or not considered to be in the mainstream of democratic artists and ship you know would be would be ruled out even the polls deemed credible. The Democratic Party have a margin of error of between 2 and 6 percent and when the criteria for being in the debates is only 2 percent a margin of error like that is a pretty big deal so tulsa gabbert could have between 0 and 7 percent support among American Voters now keep in mind there are over 200000000 people who are registered to vote in the United States of america so whats the difference between 0 and 14000000. 00 well whatever it is it is apparently not important to the Democratic National committee there is a margin of sampling error so if the margin of error is plus or minus 4 percent what is 2 percent in the polls if if its 1. 51 percent that the candidate has then does get rounded up to 2 percent whereas the 1. 44 percent which is meaningless one can argue the Democratic National committee is a private organization we can establish our own rules but then they also have to be open to the charges by somebody like tulsi gambler who says this doesnt smell like its fair and frankly i agree with their i dont think its mills that is fair now the d. N. C. Doesnt exactly have a reputation for impartiality and fairness leaked emails in 2016 show that the Democratic Party leaders were working pretty hard to defeat Bernie Sanders and make sure that it was Hillary Clinton who ultimately took on donald trump now after the outrage in 2016 the new Democratic Party chair tom perez promised to empower grassroots activists i am more committed than ever before to restoring votes is faith in the democratic process because even the perception of impartiality or an unfair advantage undermines our ability to win that is unacceptable to that end the new d. N. C. Under my leadership is committed to the tosk of making sure that all 2020 nominating process will be unquestionably fair and. Transparence so as the list of candidates gets whittled down to one final nominee voters will have to decide as to whether mr pereiras is living up to his promise. R. T. New york. Meanwhile another democratic 2020 president ial hopeful Bernie Sanders says come under fire for remark made about china the u. S. Senates appraise beijings efforts to reduce poverty prompting condemnation from politicians and the media as the if explains. Its the strangest thing there is Bernie Sanders one of the leading Democratic Candidates for the nomination and that of the blue goo is it does something that new god fearing american should ever do said something almost complimentary about china. Is a country that is moving unfortunately going to war with north korea where your number of directions but what we have to say about china in fairness to china and its leadership is of im not mistaken they have made more progress in addressing the extreme poverty. So in any country in the history of civilization bad bernie good thing there are patriotic journalists free media and honest politicians to remind me that its not nice to say nice things about china it was seen as bernie basically praising the Chinese Communist party you know which is probably killed more than any other regime on earth do you think this will be a problem for him going into the general election i think. As we think than it was a wild way to answer that question well the chinese socialists killed millions of poor people so theres that dead people are poor just dead they call that the great leap forward and after that they used a tool that bernie despises capitalism i wish there was a visual metaphor for bernies argument. I just have to keep watching i dont know why just to bring everyone up to speed what bernie meant is near enough food see years ago about 9 out of every 10 people in china lived in poverty 9 out of 10 today 2019 its one in 100 people one person in every 100 thats below the poverty line is that astounding yes that is great news for a 1000000000 people yeah but its china if we lived in the world to send them a congratulation newton flowers. Of china does something bad to raise hell about it does something good very well ignore it oh in russia dont forget brought here if they want to join us are knocking out isis that is just fine as far as im concerned worked together to beat a monstrous group thats killed untold thousands and soon terror world. Wide Work Together not a few are god fearing american donald trump believes that russia is our great ally against isis in syria but what russia is doing in syria is setting up missiles that only shoot down planes which isis does not have i think its incredibly naive to think that Vladimir Putin would do anything in the u. S. Press interest and then you may run among u. S. President s forgetting things like when jimmy carter praised yes praised hugo chavez but no you didnt really praise him but just to close we came to know a man who expressed a vision to bring profound changes to his country to benefit is specially those people who had felt neglected and marginalized and once again the free media and patriots had to remind mr carter that chavez is bad and venezuela together with china and russia iran maybe turkey a little north korea definitely geez bernie better grab a pen them and more than a baddies and even if they do what america does you cant compare the 2 because you actually cant compare them its entirely possible and even reasonable but because. Just dont as trump found out when asked by a journalist about president Vladimir Putin being a killer do a lot of killers go out and kill those where you think our country so innocent rather than well its technically right but its not what america wants to hear one patriotic american put it and no i dont think theres any equivalently but i do think america is exceptional america is different i think theres a clear distinction here and when youre exceptional you dont have to make sense you wouldnt just special you do bernie and be quite so nice here. A frenchman lost his fight to protect people in his village from person decides although he and they use a court overruled him hes now appealing the decision but his case has inspired other mayors across france to take similar action as charlotte do give reports. This tiny Breton Village of language has found itself at the center of controversy in the battle over the pesticides in may the local mag to court some saw as being a Bold Decision to ban the use of pesticides within 150. 00 metre cordon over the village farming unions were furious and the matter ended up in court now the man daniel coeff had his ban overturned but the debacle is now shining a light on the deep political contradictions so rounding pesticides in france well president might call and praised his intentions for tackling phosphate a burning issue over Health Concerns he said the solution was not to issue a decree that doesnt comply with the law so mad coeff thats a double standard. I dont understand what is happening across and the ecology minister said that i am right and doing a good thing to protect my people but in the meantime im facing court for a decision to keep pesticides at a distance of 150 metres i dont understand politics now it seems the decision by the court has banned all pesticides was illegal has also earned good residence in this usually sleepy village. Shown to children wit lots of fields around long where and its Important Health matter for us especially for children we breed the in the press the sites we did during testing the amount of best to sites with found was alarmingly high even though we eat organic and we grow some of our own food that is also organic. I think the government isnt doing its job and theyre the 1st to say that there should be no past decides they did nothing and it was in the genes or coupons as we were in a small village that is close to a farming area we need to protect people too we never know what kind of Health Issues could be created by p. So i think the decision by the mayor was intelligent and he needed to make a decision to protect the people but now he has difficulties with the Justice System the World Health Organization has said gleich phosphate often used to weed killer probably causes cancer while gov phosphate has hit the headlines over Health Concerns much corn had promised to ban the use of phosphate by 2021 that provoked an outcry by farmers in unions who said they needed an alternative mark and then pushed the ban back to the following year when the current license will expire now across france the ban imposed by mcewan has gained traction he may have lost the 1st battling court but now around 20 other matters have followed his lead banning the use of pesticides close to homes of farmers are furious cry these bans as being politically motivated saying they are getting on the environmental bandwagon ahead of my own elections. Mayors are already thinking of the next election environmentalists are wreaking havoc on our agriculture and our only factories floundering unless these mayors are outstanding scientists they are taking advantage of peoples fear to make this kind of decision which is good for their images protectors of the environment and the population but it seems the government has been backed into a corner there must be a minimum distance between residential areas and pesticides brain i will advise in the coming days farming unions and the companies that produce pesticides ashore to have something to say about that but so too does macko if you believe that these things all the only way to protect people who live in their farms which use pesticides otherwise he says their health is screwed so its even scarier for altie lanka it importunity yemens civil war is turning ever more fractured and strained the countrys government has accused its ally the United Arab Emirates of bombing its troops u. A. E. Denies its claim saying that the move was in selfdefense against an alleged attack theyve committed themselves to injustice aggression and using armed forces against the yemeni people in the southern governor raids using the u. Es military arsenal in order to divide our country i call on riyadh to intervene to stop these brightened intrusion the recent aggravation in offensives against the Arab Coalition forces and civilians poses a menacing threats the security of the coalition. Well the countries currently split between the 2 thieves who oppose the government and are believed to be backed by iran government aligned Coalition Forces in the same time of a database supports and trains southern separatists who previously fought against tooth rebels in the north now the separatists though want southern yemen to become an independent states the countering the Yemeni Government will these confrontations come amid one of the worlds biggest humanitarian crises. Was. Was. Was. The. Northeast. Writer and culture bari atwan thinks that the crisis among the Coalition Forces could have serious consequences on the situation in yemen. I believe it is extremely dangerous divil open and thats how the. United arab emirates had been solid allies and this yemen war for the last 5 years so when they actually split after the United Arab Emirates decided to pull some or most of its troops from yemen this means that the collapse of this correlation between the 2 partners and this war and the most dangerous thing also they are not actually separated but there are fighting each other there is a war by proxy between United Arab Emirates and saudi arabia and aden and particularly and nobody anticipated this kind of Dangerous Development so if it does continue i believe theyre both is in the north will be the main winner in this case and this could be that near the end of that yemen war. Or trump has announced plans to slash by half the number of american troops stationed in afghanistan with further withdrawals dependent on the outcome of peace talks with the taliban. Were going down to 8600 and then we make a determination from there as to what happens well make a determination but were going down to 8600 were bringing it down we have a very well controlled. Well after nearly 18 years of war there are currently around 14000. 00 u. S. Troops in afghanistan even if half an hour pulled out its unclear when the u. S. Will fully withdraw and it remains fake how the situation will change in the region back in 2017 there were 8400 soldiers stationed in afghanistan and that number since almost doubled and despite longstanding plans to withdraw all troops from the country starting next month we will be able to remove 10000. 00 of our troops from afghanistan by the end of this year and we will bring home a total of 33000. 00 troops by next summer fully were covering the surge i announced at west point after this initial reduction our troops will continue coming home at a steady pace by 2014 this process of transition will be complete in the Afghan People will be responsible for their own security. Middle east expert alley risk thinks that the complete withdrawal of u. S. Troops from afghanistan cannot be expected any time soon. Trump is being subject to some significant pressures within america pressures from the deep state there are close allies to trump in the Republican Party who have voiced their objection to any complete withdraw i refer here to Lindsey Graham of the well known republican senator who was also closely allied with trumpet Lindsey Graham has been very vocal in saying that deal with should not completely withdraw in fact he had an article in New York Times with the form of a us vice chief of staff jack keane in that article graham and mccain said that the withdrawal shouldnt be a withdrawal which is all which meets the conditions of the taliban who shouldnt be there for a. Process which only sort of survives the demands of polly byrne but should satisfy the demands of america or meet the american conditions so we do have these war lone figures within the United States who have clearly objected to a complete withdrawal have been very vocal in that and it appears that board trump has succumbed to those pressures. A group of military experts is calling on congress to force the disclosure of the number of the us overseas bases in their letter they describe the information currently provided by the pentagon as limited and frequently incomplete they say the official number of bases could be hugely understated. The pentagons annua base Structure Report provides some information about the number and size of base sites overseas however it fails to report on dozens of well known installations in Countries Worldwide and frequently provides incomplete or inaccurate data many suspect the pentagon does not know the true number of installations abroad there are very few countries have bases outside their own countries i mean the u. K. Has the french have some russia has a few many china has a few not many but its primarily the United States overwhelmingly has the overseas bases or bases in other peoples countries most americans dont realize we have over 800 bases now and that we have new bases that are being established particularly in africa up to 50000000. 00 or 50000000000. 00 that are being spent by the u. S. Government to how equip train have military operations you know we have large numbers of bases still in germany and japan and south korea but most people dont realize that we now have some in Eastern Europe right on the border of russia but we would say as citizens we need to know where our military we are surprised sometimes when no young men and women are killed in places and no one even knew that we had a military installation there of the signatories to that i want to a special report to be included in the 2020 National Defense authorization act its meant to increase transparency and enable better oversight of Pentagon Spending experts also think that it would help avoid Excessive Military expenditure and enhanced national security. David swanson investigative journalist and author joins me live on the line now welcome david if lets just say that this is true and the number of bases being understated whats the motivation for doing that why make the numbers smaller publicly than it is. 2 to avoid telling the u. S. Public whats going on among other things and this amendment that has passed the u. S. House of representatives but not in the Senate Version of the same bill in the 2 versions have to be reconciled with not just required at the pentagon Till Congress about each and every base but then it tell them the financial cost of each and every base Something Else the u. S. Public isnt to be told by the pentagon and would require that the pentagon tell the congress the actual Us National Security benefits of each and every base and because in the view of many of us these bases are counterproductive they in danger of the United States they stir up wars ready and turmoil and antipathy rather than protecting us we could engage in that argument about each of those bases each and every year and make the case that they need to be dismantled one of the claims thats been made is that by actually disclosing the true number of overseas bases that that would enhance u. S. National security which would you agree with that and if so how would how does it increase safety. I cannot imagine unless someone imagines a global rival in terms of dominance of the earth that is going to be intimidated by the reach of the United States and im sure that is in the thinking of people within the pentagon but to put it bluntly theyre nuts there is no rival as and right just stated this is a us interim prize this is a us specific madness and the us public doesnt know it doesnt know that the us has this kind of presence around the world that this is how other countries see the Us Government up close and doesnt know that other countries dont do it to any significant extent. And i wouldnt think from ation has been put out in this letter than the known basis cost american taxpayers around 20000000000. 00 a year math if youre talking about what i can 100 bases so can at least 25000000. 00 per base what you think the real figure is oh i think its much much higher i dont know what seem clued in that but if youre including the troops and the contractors and the mercenaries it is significantly higher and if you factor in the likelihood of at least another 25 percent of bases that are not named that are kept secret or that are pretended to be bases of the countries occupied by us forces in those bases then were certainly talking about something much larger and this is not a radical claim a proposal that the us public ought to know where its paying for what and how much its a know what the purpose of those things is if youre going to wage all these wars and extend all these bases in the name of democracy why not have a little bit of democracy around the issue. Pentagon going to Pay Attention to this are they going to impact how they report on these details in the future. Well again this is a management that is very very good we suggest tweaking it slightly but its very good as it is that has passed the u. S. House of representatives in this National Defense authorization act along with dozens of other wonderful things and not preventing a war in iran ending the u. S. War making in yemen and in the korean war abolishing the authorization for the use of military force that is used to pretend some of these more certain legal means dozens of great things in the house version of a bill so if any of them make it past the senators and make it past what house members do behind closed doors as opposed to out in the open and then make it past the president well then their law for whatever thats worth and if we can compel compliance with laws even from the pentagon then they then this will mean something and if we cant will then more radical changes are clearly needed do you think the u. S. Is just doing whether you know all of the Major Military powers a doing to the lots of other countries a lying about the military prowess not on the same scale not to the same extent certainly and the u. S. Does something very strange because it both brags about its reach and its extent and its dominance of the world and tries to hide it and cover it up so if you watch a sports event on t. V. In the United States they thank the troops for watching from 175 countries and theres lots of celebration of that but if you ask in washington d. C. Exactly where are the bases and what are they costing and what purpose are they there for its very hard to get answers and i think thats thats rather unique in terms of countries around the world. Theyve been good to speak to some interesting point to make that David Swanson investigative journalist and author is my guest. Thank you. Well lets stick with the military thing because some of the worlds best pilots been putting their skills to the test at the Max International show just outside moscow perform some pretty breathtaking maneuvers i think youll agree events a showcase for the latest in aerospace and Defense Technology more than 140000 people if packed into the event over the last 3 days. Thanks. Wherever youre watching is in the world at whatever time it is. Always appreciate your Company Thanks for joining me here on r. T. International the bout with updates for you. To. Post g 7 what is the lay of the land calls for unity to demonstrate the opposite also iran is again in the spotlight just what is trumps Foreign Policy in this volatile.
