This and we can just get right back to sport clean sport its so easy to talk about negative things but its really difficult to highlight these positive situations you know who knows maybe one two lympics this will all be behind us and well get right back to you know clean competition and a lot of fun. Well staying with sled related sports russias team of athletes have added a silver to their tally but it was a medal that might never have been skeleton compared to nikita to a group of had considered boycotting these games in support of his fellow countrymen banned over doping claims or the reduced team sizes meant a lack of coaches at the competition meaning he had to prepare all the equipment him self even did the very same for his own team mate in other results the day the telephone a note won a bronze in the speed skating is worth noting shes one of the younger competitors at just twenty three the same as the skeleton silver medalist from russia skier denise spitz off also took third place on the podium it is event makes a total of eight medals for the olympic athletes from russia team overall. Elsewhere the u. N. Backed government of libya has reportedly formed a team to assess the damage to infrastructure in the war ravaged port city of sirte once and i saw a stronghold it was a place where terrorists shot some of the most gruesome videos the city was liberated more than a year ago but locals there still fear for their lives and the threat of jihadists returning to the area looms large while residents continue to wait for life to get back to normal. I. Dont say they. Just go. To the big. These are really through the ground the food in in the complex and actually chandelier is full of completely. Mashed into the ground. And its impressive even though its been destroyed. As you can see here is damaged like its been drawn on the so this just. Into the area is completely destroyed and there is no local or International Assistance for the population there are fears that ice will return to this ere year again and be entrenched in it after the one year war. People were displaced from this area even after they returned the can find their homes because of the massed struction there is no house left and sacked especially because of the four planes and everyone knows that by so much return as any moment to say subsurface and its been the center of a stronghold the city surrounded by mountains and valleys and noise it was always in that. The president of the red cross has told r. T. That not enough International Attention is being paid to libya despite the number of devastating crises suffered by the country. Ive been in libya for the last three days and what you can see is that certain parts of the country are of course choir there today maybe one or two years ago in storage and in other parts of libya fighting is continuing and therefore needs are enormous because of the disruption of basic social Services Health water sanitation and others impact on civilian population is important is heavy libya is one of those countries with the largest percentage of displaced populations and therefore the humanitarian needs are important more needs to be done to support the different or thought it is in libya more of course has to be done also to find the political solution within libya so there is for me an unquestioned necessity to put libya much more in the center also of International Attention comparable to the attention the International Community has on other crisis is in the middle east. Breaking news is just coming in the u. S. Justice department has indicted thirteen russian nationals over alleged meddling in americas twenty sixteen president ial election the indictment is signed by special counsel Robert Muller the document claims that the individuals were involved in organizing rallies and creating fake media in order to interfere in the vote just then well bring you details on that story a little later in the program and russian meddling conspiracy theories that have been dominating headlines in the states for more than a year now but those actually pushing those theories hard is the Mainstream Media and now also finding themselves accused of inadvertent involvement in meddling has more. Mainstream media in the u. S. Has been shouting from the rooftops for over a year that russia interfered in the two thousand and sixteen us president ial election and one of moscows most dangerous tools is alleged to have been online trolls russia meddle in the twenty sixteen president ial election here in the United States russian interference went beyond the election russia was behind the election meddling if you thought the russians had stopped their active measures against the us they have it it is a genuine threat to our democracy but according to an Indepth Research project it looks as if those very outlets were the ones producing the news that was promoted by accounts claimed to have ties to the kremlin Columbia University social media researcher Jonathan Albright went through thousands of troll tweets and looked at the news sources that the accounts were linking to in the run up to the election and the results are interesting to say the least the result from this sample of tens of thousands of tweets is that the most shared news in the six months leading up to the election isnt your typical hyper partisan fake news sure broad but ranks first but its followed by a long list of what many would argue are credible if not mainstream news organizations number two on the list is the Washington Post who is also joined by the likes of the hill reuters the New York Times and irony of all ironies c. N. N. The idea that tolls were retreating real news not fake news as we were told before on hot topics in order to set the daily news agenda we have regional troll accounts consistently tweeting not only real but local news this pushes back against some of the more established narratives around hyper partisan media and fake news this headline from the Washington Post really says it all russia used Mainstream Media to manipulate American Voters except it doesnt quite explain how sharing a countrys own news articles can be seen as a sinister weapon used to change the outcome of an election. An iranian American Fashion blogger was shocked when the u. S. News station suddenly turned the interview began drilling her about Irans Nuclear ambitions however she had the last laugh when she made it lead to the question back on our interview is questioning americas constant meddling throughout the region heres a snippet from said interview. Lets talk about nuclear weapons. Some of our viewers may say we cannot trust iran what do you forge i mean i dont think we can trust this country i mean what has this country done to the majority of the countries in the middle east. Startled to be even more with the highly controversial claim that she doesnt quote sounds like an american that was just for questioning washingtons Foreign Policy please you know this interview and what it was like for the fashion blogger who would occur to be her so she joins me live on the line nice to speak to you. Despite what you went on there to talk about fashion there was this complete shift in topic to politics you seem pretty calm though when talking about the political situation what was going on inside your head to this catch you off guard or not. I mean it definitely caught me off guard but unfortunately i guess after the fact i wasnt too surprised because muslims and people of color in this country and across the west are constantly put in positions where we are kind of seen as both the token but then also supposed to talk about everything related to sort of our identity even if its not exactly related to the work that were doing at hand and so were kind in the kind of being used both as a term as a way of sort of talking about our maybe having to respond for our Government Policies back abroad but then having to blindly questionably sort of pray allegiance to this country who might be involved in violence in our country do you think that was the plan all along to get you in to talk politics under the guise of. I honestly dont think so. I do believe that it wasnt in tide really sort of with malicious intent because i think that its sort of these are sort of underlying microaggression that happen every single day and its not just me this has happened to i was just lucky enough that this is live and i was able to record it and then being able to share online but this happens constantly every single day all the time for any Single Person whos a person of color in the firm that they consciously are kind of having to do with micro greshams that are so normalizes in society and so thats why one thing that i really appreciate about sort of the viral video of this is that people are really standing up now and saying this is not normal this is not ok we should allow this from happening i mean i have to double take and i had to double check that out who dish correctly how did you feel about being so that you know to come to the exact wording that you you did sound american. I. Part just knowing sort of like the legacy of the United States and the fact that currently who the president who has been elected by the American People is it could also be seen as a compliment you know because i dont want to sound like someone who would vote trump into office if thats what an american sounds like and not so american broadcasting itself the world and i dont want to sound like that so in part i was i was really shocked by by the question or the statement but also i think it also goes back to sort of the place that muslims in america are constantly put themselves in and that we have to constantly prove that were american enough to deserve respect to deserve not being bombed or banned which all of which this country and other western countries are also involved in in the middle east and and then the second that we sort of criticize the state for what theyve actually done were deemed unamerican and this isnt just sort of like being sensitive because in the United States and across other western countries muslims and people of color are routinely and systematically criminalized for having. Political beliefs that dont align with the state are having like expressing political dissent so its more than just sort of the comment that was said but also some of the context in which it was being told to a visibly muslim person on live t. V. And sort of the complications of what that means and what that has meant for muslims and people of color across the us i mean i find it surprising because my concept of america is this this you know coach will. Country and also one that prides freedom of speech do you feel that. You had it. On this interview to express your opinions openly frankly without any kind of fear of repercussions or judgment. I dont think that theres really any moment where someone whose identity is being criminalized by the state all the time to know they truly can Say Something without being afraid that it might come back to basically. Mean i guess and i know that this happens to people of color all the time in the west and you want to Say Something that youre going to get a bunch of Death Threats are going to get hate and the state might put a little microscope over you as well and so i understand that that was kind of the place that i was going to possibly be put in because it was Live Television and a lot of the times even if ive done interviews with Media Outlets in the past because usually their articles or if it was a video that they had editorial control over it this was kind of special because i was really allowed a segment where i could voice what i wanted to say and they cant have editorial control over that and for me thats really important because then i get to control my narrative rather than having the media which constantly is already shaping muslims defining them as terrorists for political agendas here and abroad being able for me to say like this is actually whats happening and im going to im going to openly say it. How much coverage of this story what was pretty shocking to come. From the young because its been picked up by all the t. V. Stations radio stations. Yeah. The vajrayana any of this is a little unexpected i mean my readership already was i assume that it was going to get a little bit of traction among them because they i think this serves as a really important teaching tool and i think just it was a very clear manifestation of peoples inherent microaggression and sort of bias against muslims that we see in the United States and across the west constantly and so this yet this has been a little overwhelming to be quite honest about sort of the response im someone who really tries to sort of be able to engage the people who are engaging with my work but at this point its literally impossible for me to respond to everybody to even see everyones comments and ive of course im very very much honored and blessed to be in this position in which so many people are showing support and i really greatly appreciate that but also i think it is unfortunate that Something Like this seems to be so shocking for people that they they really are like well thank you for saying something that ive been wanting to say or like i have with an able to say i wasnt brave enough to say or that they were assuming that theyre going to come under sort of like. Government scrutiny for saying things which does happen all the time and so for me it was also sort of unfortunate that Something Like this went viral because it kind of shows where we are right now as a world. People its vital to be able to criticize the United States government in which actually is happening. Across the world. You clearly hundred yourself well by all accounts the response that what it took to turn it did this conversation but a lot of compliments as i understand on on the way you handled the questions over. The muslim religion over. People even suggesting perhaps youd be interested in running for some sort of Political Office how do you feel about that youve clearly got strong opinions on these. I think thats flattering but. I also think that so im abolitionists i believe in a world in which these systems and structures in which are kind of exacerbating in time of the racism in creating it arent necessarily fitting into the system doesnt necessarily make them go away but were just trying to assimilate into White Supremacy because this is anti muslim racism its not just individuals biased against each other its part of a larger system just like antiblack racism and so we have to think about this structurally rather than just wanting to just like change your policy is that when theres a whole structure of profit internationally that works within the military that works and surveillance in all of these countries that are also engaged in perpetuating anti muslim bias israel for example spreads so much anti muslim propaganda in the United States and is responsible in a great part for dehumanizing muslims around the world to justify their apartheid regime. So its greater than just like a political position by president. Yeah were going to start somewhere you clearly are being appreciated as a voice of many peoples opinions appreciate you talking greatly how to thank you so much for joining us here and ill take what occurred to be my guest fashion your guest for having me thank you. But lets get straight back to our breaking news story this hour the u. S. Justice department has indicted further team of russian nationals over alleged meddling in americas twenty six the president ial election. Joins me live on the line now from new york with the latest so its a big story what do you tell us what we got at this point. Well there are thirteen russian individuals named in the justice departments indictment as well as three entities in russia now the entities that are listed are the Internet Research agency Concord Management and the Concord Catering Company now it is alleged that these thirteen individuals as well as those three entities i just named were somehow meddling in the u. S. Election now lets be clear there is actually no crime in u. S. Law known as meddling what theyre actually charged with is conspiracy to defraud the United States as well as violations of the federal Elections Commission act and violations of the foreign agents registration act centrally its alleged that these individuals now bought advertisements on social media and that they also engaged in wire transfers or some kind of Bank Transactions or something on a fraudulent basis. And celebs that these individuals were involved in somehow trying to influence the u. S. President ial election in the favor of donald trump now what is quite interesting about this report now if you look into it. And names these individuals it alleges that they purchased advertisements on social media but at no point out do we see any allegation that they were at any point actually trying to affect the vote or hacking voter rolls or anything to that effect so i guess what is alleged is that they possibly tried to influence the minds of americans with social Media Advertising or something to that effect now furthermore what is also interesting about this this comes after months and months of investigation from bob muller into the allegations of trump colluding with russia months and months and the individuals that are named according to the reports that were seeing these individuals are not located in the United States these are individuals that are located in russia so essentially these are individuals that will not be apprehended by the United States they are simply prevented from operating and travel. To the United States they wont be able to open Bank Accounts and such in the United States so this is almost a sanctions delivered de facto the u. S. Department of justice now this announcement is coming were expecting to hear from Rod Rosenstein very shortly there will be some kind of press briefing most likely on this issue but its interesting the timing as it came just just moments after it was announced that the recent shooter in the United States this is this Nicholas Cruz who killed seventeen High School Students it was announced that the f. B. I. Had had a second tip about him in the lead up to his shooting and they had a second tip informing that this this young man was pending and planning to attack a school so it seems that that in addition to the fact that the f. B. I. Had received these tips they were spending quite a bit of time investigating Something Else and that perhaps if the f. B. I. Had been focused on preventing School Shootings up perhaps they were not focused on this kind of issue there might have been a different results at the high school that just recently happened very interesting that the f. B. I. Spent months and months preparing this report on thirteen individuals who were not even in the United States this indictment of individuals who will not be apprehended by the u. S. Department of justice bring is right up to date on our breaking news story the socket im open the lawyer from new york thanksgiving thanks to you going staying with you and international busy news hour the latest coming your way in hell for no. Its. Was was the us was the me the was. The us the us. Was was. If north korea really believes were about to conduct a preemptive strike on this could be significant in a serious preemptive strike that may. They may be motivated to make it to try to be just like. Us. Reading as in style you tasted. Just forty some odd days and twenty eighteen in the United States was once again witnessed yet another Tragic School shooting seventeen souls both young and old were violently taken from their families friends and community by yet another malicious madman whose reasons remain a mystery but whose pathology has become all too familiar how familiar you may ask well the guardian is reporting that just seven weeks into twenty eight team there are been eight shootings at u. S. Schools that have resulted in injury or death according to the nonprofit gun violence archive there was three hundred forty five Mass Shootings in just twenty seventeen alone all of this begs that most important question what can we do. What must be done to save ourselves and our loved ones from this kind of violence right now across the land politicians and their handlers are crafting soundbites while social media warriors are rattling their keyboards naturally the knee jerk gut reaction depending on which side of the political aisle you sit on is either blame the mentally ill or blame the gun and lets remember that making something illegal doesnt magically make it go away if that were true there would be no drug problems in the United States of america. Same as you cant just keep locking up the crazy folks and beating them to the Death Penalty thats not going to solve this problem either. Maybe its time we start thinking bigger maybe its time for true Mental Health care reform and accepting the fact that health care is a basic right not a privilege maybe its time to change towards the humane in how we treat our social outcasts shun them less understand the more because you cant stop what you ultimately dont understand maybe its time to examine the societal impact of condoning and defending government and corporate sponsored Mass Violence against people around the world and within our own borders because they dare to worship a different god practice a different style of government or simply werent born with the right color of skin or enough numbers in their bank account. We have to ask what kind of effect does that have on the Mental Health of the society we need to change the conditions that create the monsters who would shoot up a school or a concert rewriting or outlawing the Second Amendment or simply just condemning another person to death is basically fools gold its the cheap easy way out that doesnt actually solve the problem its like drinking robitussin to cure cancer. Hard questions and hard answers are what we need right now so lets start watching the hawks. If you want to sell one already stevie street to the best of my real interest which seems to analyze the data from the bottom to. See just how much its going to be like you know not i got. The police to. The concentration if they wanted. To. See. The stuff thats really not. Welcome in watching the hawks i am just open for the latest on the ground in the aftermath of this tragic shooting of Marjorie StallmanDouglas High School in park in florida here is our teams because no doubt about. Parkland if they were in a state of shock after the tragedy that unfolded here yesterday when the stock speck nineteen year old Nicholas Cruz stormed into his home a high School Shooting and killing seventeen people and injuring many others the area surrounding the school is still closed and obviously you can see the police and Law Enforcement and keeping a tight perimeter surrounded the high school i was able to talk to stump people overhead what they said is that parkland is a very quiet city actually it was voted after largest thankless to clean people around here are familiar with any type of violence and obviously they werent prepared with what happened here yesterday i had the chance to talk to polina elaine nick she is a student at the school she we met at her house thats just a few blocks from here and she was telling me all about what happened yesterday she was at school when the whole attack took place and she was mentioned in the chaos first and then she actually praised the teachers and the stuff to keep in everybody calm that at first he said they thought it was a drill and then they. Had to go out of the school obviously with their hands up and it was a very stressful situation for all of them and it was very interesting when she mentioned that for the time that she was in the school and afterwards she was relatively calm she obviously had to text her parents saying that she loved them and that was a stressful moment for her but she was quite calm during the whole ordeal it was only today hours after after the whole event when she realized the magnitude of what she lived yesterday and that gives us an idea of how people especially young people cope with these tragic events and its obviously going to be a long road for this community is going to be vigils here for weeks and theres going to be counseling not only for the students teachers and staff but also for their families this is going to be as a face a long road to recovery obviously after a mash you tonight this one theres theres a media frenzy and weve seen it here national and International Media on the ground but what i have seen is that people are less interested in the immediate effects they want a larger debate and that debate to go different ways some people talking about increase in security in schools others say that thats not the road we should go down because it could it could turn schools into prisons and others just want more education but the bottom line here is gun control thats the big debate some of them want more gun control some of them say that guns could actually help control this type of situation so the did they more with moving forward is going to be really interesting to see and as for now as i say its going to be a long road to recovery for over here in this community. Know were on the heels of valentines day that one day a year when were celebrating let you know of celebrating love and im sure a cut it never hurts though to talk about what happens when love comes. When and in what happens when children are involved from a seldom explored angle arties manila chan takes a look at the Family Court System across america and her special forgotten fathers its all too common to hear that society privileges men over women so when it comes to child custody its just the opposite courts will routinely deny men the right to be present in the lives of their own children those who speak up for them are ridiculed and caricature but seldom heard its time for a closer look at these forgotten fathers. Manila chan joins us now to talk about her special which is airing believe when today and then tomorrow online speak everywhere all day eight oclock today and eleven pm so manilla your special delves into some really interesting numbers about the Family Court System in america because a good topic to get into because it isnt talked about quite a bit but and you say that there is actually evidence that youve been covered or you found evidence that that there is a type of discrimination in family courts in the ass states i mean i guess i just i want to call it evidence but all across america the averages are in the millions and millions of cases that are seen or heard for custody of children the millions of cases
