Is the installation and the Man Management of these solar and Renewable Energy projects so i meet if you think about places in the world and you think about you know the middle east and obviously they have their their own Energy Source with with in the ground there but its theres a lot of sun theres a lot of sun and africa and some other parts of the world but weve got a lot of sun in the in the southwest eccentric how does the u. S. Stack up as in terms of potential for use of solar energy going into the future genetic. Well solar is a great aspect of providing Renewable Energy theres a lot of other Renewable Energies that were looking to work with waste to Energy Wind Turbines geothermal so it depends on the location for you know getting the most aspect from the solar products and Solar Panel Production and what do you think are that are sort of the Biggest Challenges for the u. S. Solar industry. Well primarily were looking to be able to expand the solar footprint and reduce our carbon. Usage right now i think the ideal opportunity would be to have more federal mandated products that are available for the u. S. Solar installation and Renewable Energy projects to be developed and expanded by being able to take advantage of some of the tariff and using that tarot funds that have been collectively accumulated over the years to help finance some of the local and state and federal projects that were looking to develop here in the u. S. Well i mean the you know the administration doesnt seem to inclined to mean theyre all about you know the beautiful and glorious clean coal which im not sure i mean coal is fine but im not sure how beautiful and glorious that is but i guess if your jobs depended appointer it is but so i dont think theyre going to go down the road nick and probably you dont either of you know mandating you know certain businesses have smaller exciter but one way to deal with it might be something im sure youre familiar with and they tried it here in the u. S. A long time ago and that cap and trade where you actually have to meet certain metal standards and you can sell credits if youre a Good Environmental citizen or a business to perhaps those beautiful glorious clean coal plants that maybe arent so beautiful and glorious when you talk about Global Warming and what do you say about cap and trade knack i believe that thats a great way to tackle the needs that we have in the u. S. And by being able to you know expand on those types of programs is what we would need that be in a very necessary you know green energy and solar not something that is going to go away but will continue to grow and become. Now with more on energy and renewables who are joined by tyson slocum the director of Public Citizens Energy Program tyson thank you for being with us again always great to be here ok so lets talk about our overall mix of energy i mean we talk about oil we talk about solar is it a good thing that we have all these different this panoply of different Energy Sources out there will definitely having an all of the above fuel mix like we do in the electric power sector does have some benefits and terms of being able to draw upon all these different fuel sources whether they be Renewables Natural gas coal or nuclear but the fact is where the trends are going in terms of Market Penetration and Cost Effective fuel sources its really being dominated by renewables and by natural gas and on the transportation side obviously oil right now dominates for fuel source but increasingly especially all these pledges were seeing from auto manufacturers the Market Impact of a tesla electrification of the transportation sector is the next big step and we get to that in just a minute but i will go back to fracking for just a minute i know youve seen the graphic we showed earlier when when ashley banks was here that graphic of Corpus Christi in austin which shows that the eagle Ford Fracking locations are just about as bright as the cities. You know how is that is that impacting not only Energy Prices but the environment like and also youve got a theres other place in the country too yeah of course i mean fracking like any extractive industry has significant environmental impacts whether its water you know you use about six to eight million gallons of water per frac to well because youre injecting this water mixed with chemicals and particulates like sand to do the frac then of course because there isnt robust natural Gas Infrastructure to. Hype about the natural gas that comes up with the frakt oil well in eagle ford youre flaring off. A large amount of the natural gas in the eagle ford as a waste byproduct thats part of what youre seeing in those satellite images and so that obviously has a negative to it well youve got this energy that may be less expensive but then you are burning it off and thats also going in to the atmosphere and in some cases i guess into peoples sinks if theyre really burning it off in their site absolutely yes we have seen a number of well contamination issues across the country and then of course when you want to dispose of the millions of gallons of waste frakt water we dispose it in these deep disposal wells and those are causing seismic activity or earthquakes particularly in oklahoma and in other regions where theres a lot of fracking going who they call those the zinc equinix i think thats right ok so lets go to renewables and go to tesla which is just you know going full speed ahead and other car makers are feeling the pressure also you know youve got in tesla youve got a speedy car that can really move and is Battery Powered is that trend going to continue and continue as we go forward absolutely that was one of the brilliant Marketing Strategies that tesla did was show the world that in all a vehicle could be a High Performance desirable vehicle and really at first that was just sort of a badge for wealthier individuals who wanted a status symbol it wasnt really a Renewable Energy company but with the introduction of the more affordable car even though theyre having serious production bottlenecks thats really a recognition that the future of the Auto Industry is going to be increasingly electric and so weve got to reconfigure elements of our infrastructure to accommodate that eventual switch and other other things out. Autos that will electrified transportation i mean high speed rail other things that will make sense absolutely and here in washington d. C. How badly is he wanted in Washington Well lives a matter of speculation really but if we believe what is being said in the us he is wanted very badly he is very much for most wanted individual in the United States is what we read in the newspapers. Seems to me that someone who sort of thing about him or herself in newspapers has every reason not to want to go to the us. Is there a chance that this knowledge will leave the embassy any time soon particularly considering this swedish case which triggered the whole embassy starker in the first place and thats been dropped for some time now. It has as you say it has been dropped the swedish prosecutor decided last may to discontinue the investigation so he has no case to answer to the swedish authorities any more and that of course is why one would expect that the british arrest warrant which came from flowed out of the swedish european arrest warrant the wish on the part of the swedish state to have mr Julian Assange extradited would also fall away that is why one would expect that there being no swedish. That is a very difficult question i think what it is likely said if you work to be in some way whisked off to the us extradited or rendered in some manner then he would face an extremely unpleasant situation whether its actual Death Penalty carried through or some sort of maximum security detention which is the case which has been the case with Chelsea Manning it is such a magnitude that it would be likely to be illegal under european human rights law to allow for him to be sent to the u.
