The police have submitted a closure report to a local court after investigating the death of Rohith Vemula, a University of Hyderabad student, concluding that he was not a Dalit and died by suicide due to fears of his "real identity" being exposed. According to the Cyberabad police, Vemula was aware that he did not belong to the Scheduled Caste and feared losing his academic credentials if his caste status was revealed.
