A Democratic candidate has announced his candidacy for the 17th U.S. Congressional seat in 2022, Rockford Alderman Jonathan Logemann. Logemann is also a high school business and economics teacher, a member of the Illinois Army National Guard, and served in Afghanistan. In Logemann's campaign announcement he says Congress needs less "career politicians" and more people who "understand the struggle firsthand." He specifically points to issues like expanding affordable health care, investing in education, taking care of veterans. Logemann also talks about the need to protect "American democracy" and "freedom" with a renewed focus on solving problems and less "finger-pointing and bickering." While the primary elections won't be until 2022, Esther Joy-King is the Republican with the most money and seems to be supported by the GOP establishment. Meanwhile, an email Wednesday blasting Joy-King and supporting Logemann seems to indicate the Democratic party establishment has blessed Logemann's bid.
