(ABC 6 NEWS) - Jury selection in the Derek Chauvin trial begins next Monday. The former Minneapolis police officer is facing charges of second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd.
Earlier today, the Minnesota Court of Appeals had arguments on whether a third-degree murder charge will be reinstated against the former officer.
Chauvin was originally charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Under Minnesota law, third-degree murder is defined as causing another's death without the intent to kill. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison took over the case at the request of Gov. Tim Walz and increased Chauvin's charged to second-degree murder. How he has to prove it in a court of law.
