Riverside County could reach 'herd immunity' by mid-June, public health officer says
Riverside County could reach herd immunity by mid-June if residents take advantage of vaccines, according to Public Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung, who said this is possible despite the announcement Tuesday that the state will temporarily suspend use of the Johnson & Johnson shot.
California has set June 15 as its goal to end the four-tiered, color-coded "Blueprint for a Safer Economy," allowing for more businesses and activities to reopen with fewer restrictions.
"Ideally we'd like to reach herd immunity before that time," Leung said during a Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. "We do believe we have the capacity and the vaccine supply to be able to do that."
